Hi Allison,

Which model Kindle or Fire do you have? Generally, you will find the registration area under Settings. You can also register it by going to "Your Account" (on the top of this screen), then "Manage Your Kindle."

The first thing you should do, though, is make sure that your Kindle/Fire is fully charged. Then you can take a look at the User Guide. It is already loaded on your device for you.

Write back if you run into any trouble.

No you can't. You haven't been able to do it that way for several months on any kindles. The link to register a device no longer exists on that page.

Allison, you do need to be in a wifi area (unless it's a kindle with 3G capability) and with the wifi turned on to be able to register.

If you bought it from Amazon, it should already be registered to your account.

You can't? Huh. Thanks for the info. Sorry, Allison, for the misinformation.

I think they changed it because there was a LOT of confusion about the fact that you could register a device there, but you still weren't fully registered, and you got an alert telling you to connect via wifi to complete the registration. But the manuals and all the product info didn't actually spell out that if you registered online it didn't complete the process, and people got really frustrated.

So I think they just made it that you have to connect by wifi, end of story.
