I tried all the suggestions, but my Kindle still will not turn on. Thoroughly disgusted. Just put on two new books and was in the middle of one. I guess it is an older one. I got it for Christmas 2010. It occasionally would turn off and reboot, and sometimes had to rest for a few days, but this time it will not turn on at all. I did get the light to go on, but the screen remained on Charlotte Bronte. Shouldn't it last longer than that?

Is it fully charged?

Is this the Kindle Keyboard? Do you have it in a leather cover that attaches with hooks? If so, remove it from the cover and reboot.

Not sure what you mean by you go the light to come on.

It is fully charged. I did take the leather cover off. I am talking about the light that comes on when you push the power button. It lights for a few seconds, and then goes off.

Have you done a reboot? Hold the power button for 30 seconds (count them).

Did that - several times. The light would come on, but the screen remained the same.

It's probably time to contact Customer Service and have the troubleshoot with you live on the phone.

Thanks. I am ready to give up.

Before you give up, hook it up to your PC and let it sit for about half an hour. One of mine appeared dead like yours. I call customer service and that's what they had me do. It worked. After about 10 or 15 minutes the Kindle rebooted.

I certainly would not give up yet. Even if the Kindle is dead :( Customer Service will often offer a discount on a replacement device to help assuage your grief over the loss of you current Kindle friend.

I finally connected to my computer. After 1/2 hour, it still did not work. After about an hour and a half, it finally rebooted. Thank you so much everybody. Now I can finish my book!

Cool! I'm not sure what the PC does to it but I'm glad it worked.
