Randy Rogers says:
How do I remove a book from the device after I have read it? It was easy to move a book from the cloud to the device but how do I do the reverse? I want to "archive" a book after I have read so it no longer appears on the device.

That worked. Thank you. I'm curious. Did I overlook something in the "help" menu? I tried to find the answer in the help menu and the user guide but was not able to.

So glad you asked this question because I was having the same problem and had read the help menu and user guide from one end to the other and couldn't find an answer either. Thanks!

I had this problem too and accidentally discovered that by pressing and holding my finer on the book icon, I was given the option to delete. However, last night I decided to take advantage of the free month of Amazon Prime and downloaded a video (from the "Earth" series I think). When I press and hold on that icon, I do not get the option to delete. Anyone know how to remove it? I don't want to get charged for it when the free month is up.

press and hole down on the book and then select remove from device... or just wait a while and don't use the file and it will go back up into cloud...

Hi, I've review all the questions and answers to this post and yes, the book is removed once I hit delete (no longer shows up on Cloud) however, the book pic is still there? How can we remove the book & icon altogether?

Lillian, you can't remove it from your Carousel. Amazon is supposed to be rolling out an update soon that will allow changes to it.

I'm having trouble with this also. I bought a 2nd generation kindle with a keyboard and downloaded some . . . shall we say "adult" titles. I could hide the titles in folders so little hands wouldn't see them. Since the device was just words anyway, they weren't really interested. Then I upgraded to a kindle Fire, which I love, but the little hands are much more interested too! And when they pick it up they see pictures rather than just words. I have removed the titles from the device, and gone in to the "Manage Your Kindle" to remove them from the cloud but they still show up on the carousel and in the book titles! HELP!!!

Jon- Just press and hold the icon until the option to remove from carousel comes up.

Maggie I. says:
The book icon is just the little picture of the book that you see on your Fire. It's the image of the book cover. Hope that helps :)

Please note that Jon and I both have done that, and the book is still on the carousel. When I do it, the icon now has a down facing arrow on it, but it's still there, cluttering up the carousel. there is no option to send it to the cloud.

The carousel is not a representation of items currently on your device, it's simply a list of books/apps/movies/whatever that you've access recently. Even after removing the actual content from the device the icon will still show on the carousel because it's showing you what you most recently accessed.

Since the most recent patch several weeks ago you can remove those shortcuts from the carousel. Simply long-press on the icon and select 'remove from carousel'. Note that this only affects the shortcut on the carousel. If the content is still on your device, removing the icon from the carousel will not remove the content itself.

edit to add - in the example you list above, that down-arrow is the indication that the content is no longer on your device (the arrow lets you know you need to download it to access again).

I have managed to remove the book from the carousel but when I click on "books" then on "cloud" the titles are still there. They no longer show in My Kindle Library which I access by clicking on Manage Your Kindle, but they are in "cloud" under books on my device and if I click on then, they still download. What's more, the pictures show as the book titles are scrolling and again, some of what I downloaded previously is NSFW or small children! Is there a way to get them off my device when I have already deleted them from My Kindle Library using my computer?

when your trial membership is done they will remove the book. and just leave a white page saying its gone. then you press and hold over the white page and you can delete it.
