Ms. O says:
Received my new KINDLE HDX FIRE last week. Notice that it will shutdown and reboot without any warning. It's happened when I've downloaded books or apps. My software is up to date. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem before reaching out to Amazon customer service. Thanks in advance.

Cyndie says:
My HDX (8.9 64 GB) rebooted twice on Thursday when I received it. It didn't happen again all weekend until last night when I went to open a game, it just randomly rebooted.

For this, I figure it's the same philosophy I apply when I decide whether I should go to a doctor or not. What can they do if it doesn't happen when I contact them? I doubt if they'll be able to tell after the fact why it rebooted. I don't go to a doctor after a pain stops either because what can they do if it's not hurting when I go?

Are you using a case for it? If so, which one? The Origami one has been reported to cause this at times. Just wondering.

Cyndie says:
I'm not using a case yet as the ones I've ordered aren't due to ship until this week or next.

Ok .. just a thought if you were. Good luck with your problem.

Yes, but if you had a recurring problem wouldn't you contact the doctor:) Even if they don't fix your problem you have documented that there is a problem. And every bit of information helps when solving technical problems.

4 random reboots since I received my device last Thursday (11/07). Haven't reported the issue yet.

I've had about 4 or 5 reboots too. It's early. My guess is that software updates will come quickly and things will stabilize.

Like Cyndie, I don't have my case yet; waiting on delivery. I understand that anything new is going to have random issues; but, just find it unusal that it will randomly shut down and reboot itself. No I haven't contacted Amazon using the MayDay button ... yet. Just wanted to see if I was the only one experiencing this problem.

I'm having the same problem and I do have the Origami case. With some apps the screen just freezes. I'm hoping this is a bug that they will have a OS fix for soon.

I'm not using a case (yet), but suspect that this is software related and a patch will fix this.

I received the 8 inch model on the first day it was available. It randomly rebooted several times the first day. The next day, it booted up to a "fastboot" screen and would do nothing else. Yes, I tried holding the power button to reset it (repeatedly.) Long story short, I spoke to customer service. They couldn't revive it so they sent me a replacement. Well, I am on my 4th Kindle HDX in over a week and each one has done the exact same thing. I am just going to return it now. Its a shame because I loved it for the little bit of time I actually got to use it.

I received my Kindle HDX the first day as well. It was running fine until yesterday, when it rebooted twice. Once when I woke it up from overnight, and the second while reading the WSJ app. I hope there is a fix soon because this thing is amazing.

I received my 8.9 HDX on release day and the first 3 days I had it, it rebooted itself spontaneously 4 times. Twice while I was swiping across the main menu, once when I tapped play on a Netflix series, and once with no interaction at all. Each time I hard rebooted in hopes there was a software issue, no luck. After contacting Amazon CS I was told it was likely a hardware issue and they sent me a new unit. I received that one on Nov. 13 and had no issues until last night when it did the same thing, this time while I was tapping a list of ebooks to queue them for download. So, hopefully, this is a software issue that will be corrected soon, I know some older models of the Kindle had a similar issue that a software update fixed. In my case, with the first unit the first 2 reboots occurred prior to using the origami case, the rest after.

I got my eagerly awaited 8.9 HDX yesterday. After charging it, I took one flash picture. It went into a continuous boot loop after that. I tried all the remedies on the forums to no avail. Called customer service where they advised me to repeat the same.

Long story short, I'm returning it and getting a replacement.

I returned my first HDX due to the rebooting problem. It was completely random. The replacement I received has yet to reboot.

I've had my HDX for three weeks and last week it rebooted twice while watching Hulu. Now every time I turn it on it reboots then I get the error message that it can't reboot. Ask if I want to reset factory install.. Very furstrating!

Judy, mine did this several times, but after installing the latest 's 3.1 it hasn't done it again. Have you gotten the latest update?

Wow, just found this discussion thread. Yes, my Origami case seems to cause this random reboot issue. My HDX 8.9" has actually twice now gone into an endless reboot cycle where it starts to boot (to the white logo - about a count of 7 seconds), but does not reach the white & yellow animated logo. It sat here for an hour today doing that, then I slid it out of the case and it continued the normal boot process.

I played with the volume and power buttons in the case and they did not seem to be stuck depressed or anything that would cause this, but it's very strange. This does not always solve the problem which is strange. Amazon does have a replacement unit on the way to me, but now I'm wondering if I even need that or if the case is somehow to blame ... I'm going to leave it out of the case until the replacement arrives ... if it doesn't happen again, maybe it IS the case somehow. That Origami case should have just left the power & volume button areas cut out so there is no chance of that being a factor.

I'm just ordered the Otterbox Defender case and I'm going to give that case a try to see if there is any difference.

Is there some sort of issues with the magnetics of the case interfering with the unit?

Same problem here with my 7". It's rebooted twice today while I was reading a Kindle book. Another odd thing I've noticed is the screen is flickering a bit. The light pulses while I'm reading a book, causing the screen to appear that it's flickering.

Mine reboots when I turn WiFi on. I believe it began after software update about 10 days ago. I contacted Amazon via Mayday on Nov. 27. Was told that the programmers would be contacted and I would receive an Email. I haven't heard anything yet but this is a very busy time.

I have thee Origami case, also. My Kindle Fire 7" HDX constantly shuts down. I took the case off and the problem seems to have gone away. Guess I'll return the case.
