Can a screenshot be taken on an original Kindle? Not a touch, not a DX or Paperwhite, the original one. I have a screenshot saved in my documents so I know it is possible.

Since you know that it's possible, then I guess you've answered your own question. Actually, I had no idea that you could and I can't experiment because I gave it away long ago.

Yes but I don't how I did it. I was hoping someone on here would be able to help me out.

Drag and drop via USB, maybe?

I don't have that generation but I think it was possible to put one's own photos on that one. I've never heard of it being capable of taking actual screenshots, though, but that's not to say it's not possible.

Yeah I'm looking to actually take a screenshot not add other photos. I just want to a still photo of a certain page of a book or what is on my screen.

I would check the Kindle's manual that came loaded on your device. Like I said, I never knew that you could do a screenshot on that "ancient" device.

Since you already answered your own question in your first post, we'll ignore that...

By Original Kindle, you must mean a Kindle 1.
A quick Google search brings up:
*alt + shift + G = screenshot
"due to an implementation bug, screenshots can only be stored on SD card, not the main storage. A gif file is saved in the card root"

The command is the same for other eInk Kindles, but of course, they don't have an SD Card.

Then I'd look in the user guide to see if it is possible. If it's not, take a screenshot on another device or your computer, then drag and drop it.

Ah, thanks.

Ha! Didn't even think of that -- Google is really your friend, eh?

Okay it is this model.

Kindle, 6" E Ink Display, Wi-Fi - Includes Special Offers (Black)

Maybe it's not the original Kindle? I'm not sure. But obviously I've looked all over Google. There's no keyboard for ALT + SHIFT + G.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 11, 2014 6:10:47 AM PST
No, that's not the original. That's the fourth generation, or basic Kindle.

Dittie says:
No, it's not the first generation.

Okay my apologies then.

Obviously...
For the Kindle 6" (Kindle 4) Google tells me:

Screenshot: Press the Keyboard button and Menu button simultaneously.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 11, 2014 6:16:06 AM PST
Try pressing the Menu and Keyboard keys at the same time.

Wouldn't it be easier to just lay the Kindle face down on a copier?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 11, 2014 6:22:08 AM PST
Not everyone has a copier in their home.

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 11, 2014 6:24:25 AM PST
Well, no. But everyone surely has someplace to GET a photocopy, if for whatever reason they really, REALLY need a print of something on a Kindle screen.

Yeah that worked. This was for a buddy of mine. He said he tried that before but we got it working this time. Thanks everyone.

What worked?
