Sometimes when I try to turn the page, it goes to page one and then I have to tap the top and hit the back arrow to get back to my page. What am I doing wrong?

I've been using Kindles since 2011 and never encountered this problem. Until yesterday.
I was reading a book I borrowed from the public library on my PW2 and it happened three times. The second time I did notice that it happened when I was starting a new chapter.
It's good to know that I am not crazy and it has happened to someone else.

I've occasionally had that happen. I figured it out that sometimes the Chapter heading has a link to go back to the table of contents (or maybe to beginning?). Maybe you just were unlucky enough to hit the link area.

That's got to be it!
I hold the PW in my right hand and tap with my thumb to turn the page.
If the chapter heading is further down the page than normal it would make sense that I might be hitting the link.
Now if only I could figure out how to stop the PW from freezing up. I hate that when it resets it has lost my place in the book (by a lot)!

I really hate the kindle Fire. I am so sorry I purchased it. I now have two kindles and with the Fire there is no way back to the beginning of the book. This was a big waste of money. When you open the book you can somtimes not be at the chapter you finished reading. You then have to keep going back page after page with your fingers. I am going back to regular books now and I hesitate to buy another Kindle. Shame amazon to have touted this new Kindle last year.Ann

Yes there is.

Shame on you to not have read the manual, or to complain when you don't know what you're doing.

Maybe you should read the user guide to see how to move around in books.

I have read it many times. I guess I am not as smart as you are.

Sorry you're having trouble, but this really does sound like a learning curve with regard to operating the device. It takes practice.

That must be true.

Hi, Sal I have downloaded a very long book. I am now sitting with my middle finger turning the pages back to Chapter one. I cannot find anyway to do this other than this way. I have read the info on it but cannot find another way. Perhaps you can help me. Thank you, Ann I have the kindle Fire.

You *should* be able to tap the middle of the screen to bring up the menu, then tap "Go To", then tap "Beginning" (as well as other choices).

What comes up when you tap the middle of the screen once while in a book?

I haven't had my PW but about 4mo. and it just started giving me trouble w/turning pages. I do it the same way that has always worked--tap or short swipe. Now I have to tap/swipe numerous times before finally getting a response. I also tried tapping once & waiting, just to see, & it will move after avg 3-5 sec. This slows me down a LOT, but the most frustrating problem is that it does not go to next or previous page, rather skips back and forward endlessly. I gave up & have been using iPad but it has much shorter battery time and I need it for other purposes. Yes, of course I've read the manual lots of times & other sources too. Any help?

Have you done a reset?

Make sure it's charged, then remove the charger. Press and hold the power button for a full 30 seconds, ignoring any message on the screen. Release the button, then wait a couple seconds. The PW should begin its reboot automatically.

If it doesn't after a minute, press the power button once and it should wake up.

A reset cures a multitude of glitches; all electronic devices need a restart once in a while.

Also, sometimes if a book is stuck indexing (Kindles "index" every single word of every single book you download), and that will slow things up.

Tap the search icon, then search a nonsense word like zxcvbn. A screen will come up showing if you have any books indexing. If you have one, and it won't finish indexing, then delete the book from the device and download it again.

Who knew?! I'll certainly give that a try. Thanks!
