1. Which title were you trying to buy that sent you to a 3rd-party site? I have never had that happen to me, so I'd like to investigate that.

2. The main purpose of Prime is to provide free two-day shipping to customers in the USA, not the bonus of being able to borrow a book month. Prime is not of great benefit to everyone.

One of the Potter series. You have to go to a site called pottermore to purchase this tittle.

OK, that is a special case. The only way that JK Rowling would allow the books to be put into Kindle format (or any other ebook format) was to allow the sales to be made through her website - it is the same for all other ereaders.

Of course there is no reason why other authors can not move the same way in the future if their bargaining power is great enough, but there are no signs of that yet, AFAIK.

@Rurban2000: I guess that it is a wait and see thing. But I'm very happy to get the benefits of my Kindles now and not wait around for some future scenario.

There are also a lot of people who are very happy with the service that Amazon provides - no one can please all people all of the time.

I have had no issues with Amazon or my Kindle that were not resolved very quickly and extremely politely. I never shopped here till I got my first Kindle. Honestly I still really only shop here for my ebooks. And I have to add that 90% of the nearly 1000 ebooks I now own were FREE. I don't use Prime, there is no reason for me to, I have the K3, or Kindle keyboard. I will be staying with the Kindle products and Amazon ebooks due to the great service, value and ease of use.
