My sister sent me a kindle book but I cannot download it until I put her on my kindle approved email list, but I cannot find where to do this.

How did she send you that book? Your "approved" email list has nothing to do with downloading Kindle books.

quilt lover says:
If she "gifted" you a book she does not send it to your kindle, she sends it to your regular e-mail and there is no need to be on the approved list. The approved list is in Manage Your Kindle and it is for sending files directly to your kindle, pdfs or whatever.

I got an email in my gmail account letting me know about the book loan

The gardener says:
It was not gifted it was loaned

quilt lover says:
Same thing, you click on the "loan" button and it takes you to Amazon, if you are signed in then you "accept" the loan and choose which device to send it to.

It's on your "Manage your Kindle" page under "Personal Document Settings" on the left.

I added the address but since I did not do that prior to her loaning me the book, it is not showing up. Thanks for all the help. I am SUCH a newbie.

quilt lover says:
Susan, again, you don't need her address in your approved list to accept a loan.

The gardener says:
i am on the phone with customer service and they cannot find the book now either. There was no place to click on the email to accept or download the book

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 27, 2011 10:45:37 AM PDT
quilt lover says:
If your friend did the loan correctly there should be a big yellowish button in the e-mail that says "get your loaned book now". You click it and it takes you to Amazon.

Are you using Gmail? Sometimes gmail will not show images & you just have to look for a white on white box that says "accept loan" or similar. My gmail filters out all Amazon images unless I trick it.

You're welcome. Did it work?

Posted on Jul 27, 2011 11:48:11 AM PDT
The gardener says:
No it did not work, oh well this is what the email said: Dear Customer,

The sender digital-noreply@amazon.com tried to send document(s) to your Kindle. Any document, sent to you by digital-noreply@amazon.com will not be delivered to your Kindle because the sender is not in your Kindle approved e-mail list.

To approve the sender's e-mail address:
1. Visit Manage Your Kindle page.
2. Sign-in to Amazon account.
3. In "Your Kindle Approved E-mail List" enter the e-mail address to approve and select "Add Address."
4. Instruct the sender to resend the document(s).

Please note that you will receive this notification only once. In the future, only documents sent from approved e-mail addresses will be delivered to you.

The gardener says:
I was told by customer service to ask my sister to resend the book, however she can't because it is listed as "loaned out"

A. Sisk says:
then your friend also did it wrong.

If she was lending you one of her ebooks, she should send it to your regular email address -- not your KINDLE'S email address. Then you will be able to DL it to your kindle.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 27, 2011 11:52:27 AM PDT
quilt lover says:
Ok, that's the problem, they weren't supposed to send it to your kindle. They were supposed to send it to your regular e-mail. If you CALL kindleCS they can help you, or you can wait 7 days & your friend can re-send to your regular e-mail. (You have 7 days to accept, otherwise it goes back to them and they can lend it to you or someone else)

The gardener says:
She did not send it to my kindle she sent it to my reg. email address. It just does not work if u do not have the persons address in your kindle trusted email list. Customer service tried to help but could not.

quilt lover says:
Yes it does. I borrow/loan all the time. Never had to jump through hoops like this.
