For the record, I've had mine for about 5 hours and just wanted to tell everyone that it is really awesome and does NOT have the blue light bleed. That is all.

I don't have the blue edge either.

Confirmed. Same here which is awesome. Just wondering though If it's the same technology in both devices why does the 7" have the hue and not the 8.9"? Thought this had to be since blue LEDs were used.

Several people here in the forums as well as several review sites online have reported that the HDX 8.9 is using white LED's instead of the blue. I don't know why the difference unless it is something to do with screen size.

I'm delighted for you 8.9" people, I really am. And I'm struggling with the decision to return my 7" HDX within my window and get an 8.9 instead? I only invested $15 in cases, so that's not much of a hit if I decide to do it. But I also benefited from the 15% discount the other day, so to get a 32GB HDX 8.9 will require a serious investment. Under $300 I figure I'll likely do every year. More than that requires thought.

Owell, thanks very much to all of you who have confirmed the problem that isn't a problem on the 7" doesn't actually exist on the 8.9.

I am in the same boat. I had a rep tell me they may be able to do something for me (FAA discount) but couldn't do it on the 8.9 pre-release. The 7" rocks but that blueish border is close to a deal-breaker.

I'm not only seeing it on white screens, but I see it on slightly darker screens as well, like when I am reading in sepia.

I could just hold onto my 2012 HD 7, but other than the blue haze, the HDX is perfect for me.

Then, I don't imagine that when I'm ready for the latest *next year, the HDX 7" will be worth much as a trade in. Everyone will know that blue haze is "normal" by then.

How is the screen on the HD vs the HDX? Agree on seeing the border on sepia as well. Disappointing.

Researching specs the HD looks like a big step down re: screen. Movies look so d&@$ good on the HDX.

The screen is nicer on the HDX, no question. But on a 7 inch screen, I'm not sure how *much nicer is evident? My eyes aren't really all that great.

And the features of Mojito are promising. Very promising, I'll especially appreciate collections.

The sound is actually minimally better on the older HD.

But I love holding this thing (this thing being the HDX), it's so light! My HD spent most of the time sitting on a stand. The same stand holds the HDX nicely, but I keep picking it up!

Thanks for helping me think this out, T.

We are in the same boat. I have watched shows from Prime (SOA, Apocalypse Now, Walking Dead), Netflix & HBO Go. Side by side with a Nexus 7 the HDX looks better to me (especially colors). Sound on the HDX beats the iPad 4 & Nexus 7. I sometimes work in a room with IT folks and we take turns playing music. Today the HDX did great for a small room.

I plan to test the 8.9 for weight. If I can watch hour movies holding in my hand (have watched many on HDX) the 8.9 could win, especially since it's free of the blueish border. If the 8.9 isn't light enough and hand-friendly it could send me to the retina Mini. I think an HDX with no reading screen issue would keep me away from the Mini.

I can certainly notice the quietness other posters are referring to in the audio output from the HDX. I have above average hearing, using monster turbine pro coppers with medium comply tips for isolation.

In a dead silent house where I am the only one who is still awake, the audio volume is at the middle of the range to reach an acceptable music playback on a relatively bright guitar and vocal performance track. Clarity is still pretty good across several genres tested tonight.

The reports of quiet speakers are correct, it's the amp. Whether output is targeted to the speakers or the Jack, the signal power in raw mW is low.
