Do Kindle books ever get updated?

I imagine if you KNEW a book had been updated and you removed it and redownloaded it, you'd get the updated version, but of course that's not really something they'd announce, so you wouldn't know.

Yes. I've received e-mails from Amazon saying that books I've purchased have been updated. You get a choice - if you want the new version, you don't have to do anything. It will be replaced and you can go to your Manage Your Kindle page and download the new version. HOWEVER! If you have notes, highlights, etc., you will lose them if the file is replaced, so you can choose not to replace the file. You just send an e-mail saying not to replace it.

Ok, I guess my memory was faulty. You have to respond with a yes in order to replace the old file. The fact remains, though, that you have to decide if you want to keep your notes, or get the new version. I don't make notes, so it's easy for me, but many people do make them............

I have also sent CS a list of books that have bad typos. That way they know to inform whoever it is that needs to make the changes.
And I have gotten emails back from them about the corrections.

I have also notified publishers of poor editing and formatting but I have yet to get a response that was more than whining about how terribly tough their job is. Now, there are some publishers that I will not buy without samply first.

The second item is

"Would you like to report poor quality or formatting in this book?"

I think this is the most effective way since it is routed to the area that can do something about it.

I just did this with Farenheit 451 couple of weeks ago.

@Snikt5 - Just go to Manage Your Kindle page (move mouse over Your Account in upper right hand corner and Manage Your Kindle is part way down the list) Find the book in your list and there will be a button to download the updated version. I haven't done it in a while so I don't remember exactly where that button is but it is obvious

A quicker way to identify the updates is also on the Manage Your Kindle page. On the drop down menu at the top (where it says All Items, etc.), Updates will be listed as an option - click on this and it will give you the short list of books available for update. [If no updates are available the option doesn't show.]

I was just thinking that Amazon needed to add an option to that menu so that one could see all the books that had updates available. It is not in the drop-down list on my "Manage Your Kindle" page. I had to go through all my books, one page at a time, and look for the blue "Update available" option. For some books, I got a message that all highlights and notes would be lost - it seems to me that an update shouldn't break those since they are stored in a text file on the Kindle and, in fact, one book for which I got that note still seems to have all the highlights and notes still available. For other books, I got a message that said highlights and notes would still be available. I have not ever gotten an e-mail saying an update was available.

With the updated software for the Kindle, 5.1.0 (at least on the Touch), when you highlight a section of text and the screen comes up that says Share/Add Note/Highlight, there is now a "More..." option. Click that and the last item in the list will be "Report Content Error." That will let you identify the type of error and enter a description of the error. Supposedly, a specialist will then look at those and post updates on Your Profile->Corrections on your http://kindle.amazon.com page. However, I have yet to see any update other than "Received" for any corrections I've submitted -- it apparently takes a bit of time for someone to look at those.

Robert, I get that email on a regular basis. It is sent to the email on my account. I would check your "junk" folder. Maybe it is being put in the wrong category.

Thanks E! That explains why I've never gotten an email. And I agree...it's so easy to buy things and for them to email receipts and such, I'm surprised it's not easier for them to provide quick emails about book updates.
