Deleting from Kindle Fire

My fire is really filling up. I'm at 4.9 MG. Almost maxed out. I deleted dozens of songs from device (still in cloud hopefully), a few apps and books. All from device - not the cloud. When I checked device status after deleting those items, it still says 4.9 MG. What am I doing wrong? How can I free up space on device? Thanks.

What does it say, exactly, in () after both application storage and internal storage?

Application storage says (787.93MB of 1.17 GB available). Internal storage, described as books, movies, etc says 4.88 GB of 5 36 GB available). Sorry got MG and GB mixed up

That's good. You have only used about 400 MB (megabytes) of your app space and about half a GB (gigabyte, roughly 1000 megabytes) of your main storage). You should be good for a long time.

Also, the orange bar shows how much you have used, not how much is left.

Have you cleared out your web cache and history? Also clearing out the cookies will help. Also restart your Fire after deleting stuff. I have 79 apps and lots of other stuff on my Fire. I still have 517 mb of application storage available, and 2.92 G of internal storage available.

It looks to me like you have a lot of available storage on your Fire still.

I'm running out of space! I don't know how to free it up other than deleting books and things and I really don't want to! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have tried everything. I deleted apps I really wanted to keep and I only have about 2 books that I will not get rid of. I don't have any music and I depredation half of my pictures. I cleared data from apps but I still see in my notifications 'Low on internal storage' It won't allow me to use any of the apps I have nor purchase any from the appstoree. I am so confused and frustrated. Please help me!

I just went through this with Amazon CS earlier this evening. Here are some things to try for some of the "hidden" stuff:

1. Open your gallery app. You may have a lot of videos embedded in there that may be cleared out. Touch the video section. Long-touch one of the videos to select it. You can select some or all and delete them. (Before deleting, you can touch "more", then "details", to see their size).

2. Go to the Web section. Touch the "list" (the thing at the bottom in the middle) and then "Downloads". This is where anything you downloaded on the web is, and you can delete that stuff.

3. From home, touch the gear (top right), "more", "applications", then from the drop-down, select "All Applications". Find the application called "Appstore" (they're in alphabetical order). Touch "Appstore", you may be able to clear a lot of data there (touch button called "clear data").

While you are in this section, you can do this for all the other apps too, but you will be deleting saved game data.

I found out today that apps do use some of the space in the Internal Storage area, and one of the apps I installed earlier seemed to use a lot. If this does not clear up a reasonable amount of space, please post back. I'm curious if other people are experiencing what I am experiencing. I think installing a particular app caused the problem on my Fire.

Thank you for the appstore idea, I have spent hours on hold with amazon help trying to get ideas for clearing app space on my kindle and they never mentioned that or anything else. I figured out the clearing of cache, history, cookies, on my own. I have downloaded 5 apps that take up 140MB of space, it shows I had 384MB of app space free, now after the appstore data and cache clear I have 404MB. I am very frustrated with my kindle fire's lack of space for apps. I have had it for over 2 years and can have fewer and fewer apps loaded.

The only "help" amazon gave was I could reset the kindle to remove all personal data, but it still would have all their preinstalled apps that I can't remove and don't use.
