Sweetie says:
My KFHD sproratically buffers and loses connection while trying to stream a video. My Netgear N 150 wireless router ( model WNR1000) was installed by the cable company just 2 weeks before I got my KFHD In Sept. Mypaid for broadband speed is 10MBS ( ? abbreviation).

In an earlier post, someone told me that my problem was most likely the router ( since some of the time I can stream full 30 minute TV episodes if I "power down/power up" the router).

The cable co. came out yesterday....states no problem with router, modem or connections. He did replace a couple of splitters.
Then last night I was able to watch one hour video....no problem.

Now tonight, it is back to buffering every 20 seconds and dropping WIFI signal ( the X appears over the WIFI symbol). I get a message saying that my internet is too slow ( Needs to be 800KBS).....well, I check my speed via speedtest.net and I have 12.7 MBS ( at the same time I get the message that my internet is too slow).

I am puzzled.....the cable company says router is fine and I should be able to use it without problems. The KFHD is the only wireless device I use. Could the Netgear N 150 router be too cheap or outdated to effectively steam movies? Should I upgrade broadband speed to 20 MBS?

I've tried streaming video on 2 public WIFI spots....one worked fine for the 15 minutes I viewed and the other one never did stop "buffering".

Any advice?....I will be primarily using KFHD in my home to stream Amazon Prime videos. I want to drop cable TV, but need to get the KFHD streaming well first.

Have you tried streaming the same content on a computer at around the same time of day?

No I haven't.....actually I am pretty computer illiterate and don't know how to stream video to my desktop computer....Can you tell me how to stream an Amazon Prime "free" instant video to my home desktop computer? Then I'll check it out.. Thanks in advance.

Actually, no, I can't tell you specifically because I don't have Prime. lol

Try this: Top left, mouse over Shop All Departments>Movies, Music and Games>Amazon Instant Video. From there you should be able to find the same video and stream it.

Just go here with your web browser:

http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=sa_menu_aiv_piv0?ie=UTF8&node=2676882011

Pick any of the Prime videos and you'll see the option to play it in the browser window.

 Ann says:
Go to http://amazon.com/piv, pick a movie, and click the "Watch Now" button. It should start playing in your browser.

Thanks for teaching me how to see instant video on my computer....I am able to stream the video on the computer without buffering, but when I stream the same episode on my KFHD () at the same time I have it streaming on the computer) I am still getting buffering on the KFHD and again got the message that my internet was too slow and needed to be at least 800 kbps. The message on my computer screen during streaming video was that video quality was good and connection/speed was high.

Sweetie - Is your computer connected directly to your modem or does it use the wi fi? If it's connected directly to the modem, you might have better speed. Try using the Fire right next to your wi fi router and see if the buffering improves.

 Ann says:
Are you using a wired or wireless connection for your computer?

Edit: I'm apparently following you around tonight, Laura - sorry!

Reboot the Fire and try it again.

LOL! It's okay Ann, we're thinking alike!

I am using a wired connection from the computer to the modem. I am using the KFHD right next to the router and it still buffers. I rebooted the KFHD and it didn't hlep matters.

These sorts of things can be very frustrating. It probably <is> something with the wifi or router, but <could> be with the Fire.

Download the free Wifi Analyzer app and run it and see if there are any other wifi networks nearby that are possibly interfering with yours.

edit - also, don't put the Fire directly next to the router. Keep it at least a couple of feet away.

My best advice at this point is to contact Kindle customer service to have them troubleshoot. *If* it's the Kindle device, they could have a replacement to you faster than you could try to rule out things.
