Recharging my Kindle with a cell phone charger?

I purchased my Kindle Keyboard last week and as soon as I unboxed it I charged it up. Looking at the charge plug it looks almost identical to my current HTC EVO 4G charger, it has the same USB Cable and the adapter you plug into the wall is the same as well (in looks anyway).

My question is this, instead of carrying around both cables can I charge up the Kindle using my cell phones charger?

Absolutely. If your phone charges with a micro USB plug (which is what Kindle uses), go for it. In fact, I do something similar, and carry my Kindle charger around to use with my cell (so I can leave my cell charger plugged in next to my bed).

Yep, I do it all the time. I have one charger at my work desk, one in the car, one in the bedroom and one at my home computer. They all charge my Kindle or my Samsum Captivate.

I have the Palm Pre that charges with a micro USB and I use the charger for my Kindle all the time. It's only $3 and change from Amazon so I have several.

Yep, I do it all the time. We have 2 Kindles, 2 HTC phones and one Blackberry that all use the same charger. It's so nice because I can keep one plugged at each of our favorite chairs in the den, and keep one next to the bed.

I looked at the car chargers for the Kindle, and the ones with decent ratings were more than I wanted to pay for something I would seldom use. My other devices (MP3 player, DVD player, phone, etc.) come with a slightly different-shaped micro-USB plug and won't swap with the one for Kindle. But then in my local super-grocery store, I was glancing at the electrical doodads in the light bulb section of the store, and I saw a funny little thing. It was a car charger with one end for a standard USB plug, just like the wall charger for the Kindle has. It was only 6 bucks, made by GE. I tried it today with the Kindle, and the Kindle charged just as though it was plugged into the wall. I can also use it with my other devices if I want. It was a great buy.

Yeah, I have one of those. Got it at Walmart and paid a little more. It works with my Kindle, cellphone, mp3 player, anything that charges with a USB cable.

Most all devices that use the standard USB connection get this power : 5v @ 500ma. Some devices with LCD screens or bigger batteries will draw more amps, such as an iPad, Kindle Fire, and other tablets.... from the basic 5v @ 500ma, to Kindle ereader 5v @ 850ma, to iPad 5v @ 2100ma.

A device/battery will use what it needs from the power source...

SO - look for the largest capacity wall charger you have, and use that for all your devices. I have one that supplies 5v @ 2amps (2000ma) and that pretty much will charge anything around our house. The more amps will allow the device to be turned on AND allow the battery to be charged quickly - vs one or the other with a lesser capacity charger.
