Kindle PC & Highlight Color

I always highlight important sections in books. I also have 3 different levels of highlights. On my iPad I simply select the text, a menu pops up and I chose the color/importance I want.

I am now using the PC version of Kindle a lot. However, I have not been able to change the color of the high-lighted text despite going through about every menu I can. Where can I change the color?

Don't tell me that on the Kindle PC program I can't change the color but I can on an iPad, one of the biggest competitors to the Amazon Kindle....

The Artist, I am not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying that I should expect less from the Kindle-for-PC because it's free? If so I completely disagree with this. Kindle on the PC serves only one purpose (reading books which should include highlights with different color) while the iPad has MANY usages. The Kindle-4-PC and iPad are also used in quite different environments.

In any case, I would appreciate some input on how I can highlight text in different color with Kindle on PC, i.e. my original question. I have been committed to Amazon purchasing Prime membership, a big screen Kindle and a small screen kindle. All I am asking for is a way to highlight text in different colors using Kindle-For-PC for books I purchase on Amazon (I buy many) and that I now read on a PC. Is this too much to ask for from a loyal customer who has spent many $10k at Amazon?

Yes, I understand this is a customer discussion forum. Again, my question is how can I highlight text in different colors using Kindle For PC. It seems this cannot be done. Unfortunately, all you contributed is a cocky response without giving a clear answer to loyal Amazon customers. It would have been much more helpful if you just say that currently Kindle For PC does not offer such an option, assuming that this is indeed the case.

Then why answer a question if you don't have an answer...? I contacted this forum because there are literally millions of Amazon Kindle customers out there and somebody might have a solution. If there is no solution they might state so. I won't be happy if there is no solution but at least then I know. The point is, I still don't have an answer, though I can make some educated guess from answers of people who don't really know...

I guess it's time to invest into another iPad instead of a free K4PC which means I am not very likely to buy another Kindle device anytime soon...

It's so sad that I can only laugh about it. In my past I have helped MANY people on forums with REAL advise explaining things in great detail instead of making some useless smart comments. Anyways, always looking at things in a positive light, this post made it clear that I will rather spend more money on an iPad again rather than a third Kindle. Thank you!

How can people give you answers in great detail if they don't use the app?

Most of us have several kindles and have no need of the k4pc app. Directing you to customer service for information seems the best option to me.

If highlighting is that important to you, buy a device that supports it. The Fire HDX has many highlighting colors as does the HD.

Hi book guru , i have no clue why youre being attacked and you are correct in saying these other users are replying to your question and only ridiculing you (to what gain?) instead of answering your question. I use the Kindle app on my android tablet and also from time to time read it on my windows pc, from my experience it looks like the only highlighted color options on the PC app is indeed blue while youre allowed to have multi colored highlights (which i use the same as you) on the mobile application. It certainly seems to make no sense why they cant have 3 or 4 more colors added to the kindle pc app that way there is no fragmentation between reading on PC and tablets/mobile. I hope that answers your question!

Cursing and name calling will get your post deleted by Amazon. Way to bring up a thread that died a few weeks ago just to violate the forum rules!

I also came to this post looking for an answer. I can't believe that Amazon doesn't make multiple colors available. Unbelievable. They do on mobile, but not on the PC app? I guess they want people to not settle for their PC as a Kindle. Yes, I'm sure that is what it is. Pretty annoying, though.

Thanks. At least someone agrees with me, then!

THANK YOU !!! I have really needed to be able to have 6 or 7 colors for highlighting on the Kindle and of course there is only yellow. Thank you for asking this question. I can hardly wait for the fix!!

you say that on the Amazon mobile app you can highlight in more than one color . . . would you tell me how to do that?

Rick Lesueur says:
I use colored Highlights with the free app for Android (not Amazon's kindle, hardware) Current version has four color options available for highlighting, I use yellow for general highlighting and blue for new words that I look up in the dictionary. In that way I can search using the online Kindle summary, for all words.
I now find that the PC version is tied to Dictionary.com (and can save words there instead), so very cool but unfortunately the ANDROID version does not support this feature.. Geez.. BTW I have been asking for colored highlighting w/ Android for four years, finally magically appeared. Perhaps will soon appear on the PC version too?

The initial responses to this question were ridiculous. I am wondering the exact same thing which is why opened this webpage. You can't go anywhere on the internet without trolls like the artist. this is a legitimate question. I use multicolored highlighting to establish a sort of highlighting hierarchy with many of the technical books I read. Yes the app is free, But Amazon gets tons of money for all of the books I have bought from them, so I would hope they would make the app I use to read these books as useful as possible. Hopefully, kindle 4 PC will add multicolored highlights soon. Thank you for your question Book Guru. Please update this post if anyone receives any info on this. If you are an annoying troll go on YouTube and be a bully there instead.

I too am disappointed by the lack of multicoloured highlighting options. It's great on Android, but completely missing on PC. I'm reading a lot of technical IT books, and use different colours for different things (yellow for important info, orange/peach to emphasise something, pink for a new technical term, and blue for commands). I love how my bookmarks and highlights are synced to the PC app from my Android device, but the highlighting is ALL yellow on my PC. Here's hoping Amazon can fix this soon...

MULTIPLE HIGHLIGHT COLORS FOR THE WEB READER PLEASE!

I use f.lux and cannot view the yellow highlights when my computer screen dims.

I also would like to differentiate between highlighted information via different colors.

THANKS,
