Paperwhite - Unable to swipe from chapter to chapter?

Question about the new Paperwhite! One of my most-used features on the Kindle Touch was the ability to swipe up and down to navigate chapters. Occasionally, I need to refresh my memory on something I read a few chapters back... like, for instance, in the Game of Thrones books. I'm not seeing a way to do that on the Paperwhite - chapter swipes aren't working for me. Anyone figured out a way to do this, or is that a feature that might be added later?

I'd like to know the answer to that as well.

The same with me. No problem with the previos kindle version - KT- though. I suppose it is a software problem - probably this feature will be added in the next upgrade.

I am waiting for my PW, so I don't know the answer. Have you read the manual to see if this feature is offered?

How do you swipe from chapter to chapter with Kindle Touch?

I do not know about swipes, but you can use the Go to button on the menu next to fonts and xray to traverse chapters. Hope that helps.

I quickly scanned the manual, and didn't find this capability. Yes, in the Kindle Touch, I could swipe up the page to go back, or down the page to go forward, to move from chapter to chapter. Very handy if you want to skip something gory, or boring - or go back to review a chapter....using the Go button, which I just tried, works, but does feel like a step backward - the only flaw in the touchscreen controls so far, everything else feels like a step forward from the Touch.....

I checked the manual, but didn't find anything about it. I'm hoping they add the feature with the next upgrade if it doesn't exist yet. For the previous Kindle Touch: To go to the next chapter of a book (or the next article in a periodical), swipe up the page; to go to the previous chapter, swipe down.

I've been using the Go To button, but the page swipe was SO much faster!

Hmm, I didn't know that. That sounds like a pretty cool feature. Amazon should definitely include that in the next software update. Hopefully soon.

That is odd it wouldn't be available anymore. I know a lot of books did not support the feature, I wonder if that's why.

Works on KT, does not work on KWP - the same book.

They must have got tired of people complaining about the touch jumping pages.

Then they should just add that feature but the feature is disabled by default. One needs to enable it manually to be able to jump from chapter to chapter.

It is disappointing to here that you can't go from chapter to chapter because I do use that feature on my Kindle Keyboard.

Jeanine says:
I knew I hadn't worded that well. I meant maybe they did away with the feature because of some issue with publishers not adding the ability to their books or something.

Sorry - i did not understand you. I see now what you meant.

Remember - you can email Amazon at to tell them you don't like that this feature was removed. I know some people complained that they accidentally jumped chapters. But they should have made it an option to turn on (or off) chapter jumps, not remove it entirely. Remember, be polite and concise. Amazon does listen to users, at least some times - they are coming out with an update on the Fire to be able to remove the "recommended for you" row, because so many people complained (also there wasn't originally an option to buy out of the ads on the fire HD, but now there is).

It might also be because a lot of people complained the it jumped too many pages on the original Touch. Send feedback in and see if they add it.

Jeanine says:
I always considered it user error if it jumped pages or chapters, since it was usually me being impatient, so I didn't realize that was a complaint lol

I sent them feedback - they said that it's definitely not a feature on the Paperwhite, but that they'd forward it to the development team. If anyone else feels up to emailing, they might get working on it :-)

Mary McManus says:
I didn't realize it was missing till I tried it on a book that I knew had a lot of short chapters. However, the good news is that it still works on periodicals, i.e., to get from article to article you swipe up to go forward and down to go back. If they had removed that, it would have been a major bummer.

it was one of the biggest complaints

Ack! no easy way to jump from chapter to chapter (or book to book in an omnibus)... that is the one thing I will miss as one my K3 I use it often (the directional button).

Ennui says:
At first when I heard this I was disappointed but then I realized that pretty much the only time I used the chapter swiping was when my hair would just break the IR layer on my touch and inadvertently push me forward or back in the book; it does seem to be an odd thing to leave out in a touch device, though.
