Looking for suggestions for post apocalyptic fiction - "post" as in whatever big event already happened and now people are trying to survive. For some reason, a lot of books labeled post apocalyptic are still set relatively within the story's apocalypse.

I prefer no zombies...unless it's reeeeeeeeally good. I've just had my zed fill for a while.

Far in the future, long past the apocalypse, and crazy scifi are ok too.

in kindle versions:

The Road
Oryx and Crake (MaddAddam Trilogy, Book 1)
and its sequels
The Year of the Flood (MaddAddam Trilogy, Book 2)
MaddAddam (MaddAddam Trilogy, Book 3)
and another one by the author that I highly recommend
The Handmaid's Tale (Vintage Classics) (excellent movie made from this one)

The Postman (made into a terrible movie by kevin Costner - the book is much, much better)
The Wool Trilogy: Wool, Shift, Dust

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller.

It takes place several years after a flu pandemic has wiped out most of the world's population. No more government. No more infrastructure. It's every man for himself. How do you survive when everyone you love is gone? I highly recommend it.

it is absolutely forbidden by Amazon to self-promote on any forum except the Meet our Authors forum (link on the bottom of this page) so you might want to edit your post before Amazon removes it and you end up on a lot of people's do not buy lists

I second both Swan Song and Magic Bites. Both excellent choices!

I have to second the recommendation for "A Canticle for Liebowitz". This is one of the early post-apocalyptic novels, and still one of the greatest.
