Has this option been discontinued in favour of giftcards? I seem to remember it being under the 'Buy Now With One Click' but nary a sign of it. Using 'gift' and 'search page' proved equally fruitless.

Nope. I have a Give As Gift button right under the Buy Now With 1 Click button.

What book were you trying to gift. If it is a pre order or a free book you cannot give those as a gift.

Thanks for your interest, Bixillarla. It's not specific to the book, as I've checked out a number of other ebooks with the same result.

I'm starting to wonder if the problem is elsewhere (e.g. my laptop - a macbook pro - or my version of firefox). I might be better off posting my query on when the kindle was first launched, Irish readers could only purchase from the US site. This changed, and I transferred my account to the UK site. If the problem is with Amazon, then it is with this site rather than its American equivalent.

Well, well - I just checked the UK 'Customer Discussions' site, and have never provided a 'Give as a Gift' option.
