Kindle & Immersion Reading

I want to use immersion reading with the Kindle app. It's a Kindle Fire the ONLY way to do this? I'm not willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for a tablet just for this, but from what I'm reading, this really appears to be the only use I'd have for a Kindle Fire tablet. Other than Kindle (The actual app), I don't really play in the Kindle/Amazon ecosystem, and am fully immersed in Google. If I bought a Kindle Fire HDX, if I rooted it (I've rooted my Android phones before) and added the Google Play Store, would I then lose the immersion reading feature, or would it retain it?

Yes, Immersion Reading only works on certain models of the Fire. If you rooted it you'd lose that feature.

So basically I'd be spending $379 (8" Kindle Fire HDX) for the ability to read books? Is there anyway to see which apps are available for it without purchasing one?

CBRetriever says:
you could get the $139 Kindle Fire HD 7", HD Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - Includes Special Offers (Previous Generation - 3rd)

and yes, you can see what apps are available by going here

and going down the left side and selecting the model you want to purchase and for me it shows 156,740 for that model

Most of what I use on my phone in seeing in the Kindle App Store. They seem to be old versions though, or it's just their original release date, I'm not sure. For instance, I use Plume for Twitter. This was updated on May 19 2014 in the Google Play Store, but Amazon says theirs was released August 31 2012. Is this the original release date, or the release date of the most up to date version? If the latter, would I be able to back up the most current version on my phone, get it into the Kindle somehow, and then install that version? Would it work correctly?

I have no idea on that however, most of the Google Play apps are available for and can be downloaded to the Fire from or (I use these a lot)

My other question is about Google Calendar. My entire schedule is on that. I imagine Amazon has a calendar app, but will it sync with Google Calendar or no?

YepIt'sBecky says:
The August date is when it was added to the Amazon Store, you check the version release for the most up to date release. For that particular app it's 5.61, just like on google play store.
