I pre-ordered a 8.9" hdx because of the dual camera and the larger screen. Just curious why didn't they put a second camera in the 7" hdx?

It would be worth paying extra for an extra camera.

Probably to get folks like you to spring for the more expensive unit. Or, perhaps, there wasn't enough room for the extra gear needed to have the second camera in the 7" model. Maybe they could have fit the second camera system in the 7" model, but doing so would have made it almost as expensive as the 8.9" 4G model...and they wanted to have a lower priced unit for people who would be happy to forego the second camera to get a lower priced unit. Who knows? Who cares? Why should people who don't want a second camera have to pay more for the thing just to please people who do want a second camera? The way it is, everyone gets a choice. Those who want lower prices get that, by not having the second camera, and those who want a second camera get that by paying a higher price. As it is, there is something for everyone. Don't worry. Be happy. You had a choice to make-lower price, or second camera-and you made it. Allow others-especially those who want lower price-to have the same option.

NOT to some of us. It would NOT be worth paying extra for a second camera. In fact, paying anything for even ONE camera is too much for some people who are more into reading / movie viewing / game playing, and not at all into photography, or skyping.

To you, yes. To others, no.

I was just wondering that's all. Relax take a deep breath and don't take the question personally. That's what forums are for. To create discussion.

As this is a public, customer forum, there won't be anyone here who would be able to answer that question outside of speculation.

That said, I would tend to agree with The Artist that price would likely be the primary factor because the more components you place into an electronics device, the higher the price tag... and it may be enough to keep a lower end device out of the hands of many who may want the 7 inch HDX primarily for playing games, Skyping, watching videos, or reading.

Unfortunately, the reality is that you cannot have every feature available in every model, so it makes sense to add those extras to the higher end models.

Not everyone wants a Volkswagon. Some people want Mustangs, or Ferraris, or Volvo wagons, or Chevy SUVs. So it is in the automobile world. The same holds true in the world of E-Readers, and Tablets. Different strokes for different folks. Why should people who don't want a second camera be forced-by those who do want it-to buy a unit which has it? If there were only models with second cameras, that is what would happen. The way it is, people who want a second camera can have it, and those who don't want it don't have to have it. This makes the thing more suitable to a wider audience, and a more diverse income group. Putting the second camera system into the larger unit-rather than the smaller unit-makes it all fit better, and overheat less, and break down less often.

And I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that I will put a brick through the next tablet that blocks my view, being held up as a camera.

Yes, we all love trying to see around that cafeteria tray camera, don't we?

Folina, I think of you every time I see that TV commercial about the new phone (with a more powerful camera) that shows a couple sitting in the last row of the auditorium getting a better shot of the action than the people up front, who are crawling all over and on top of the people in front of them. One of the people up front is holding an iPad and the others are holding various sizes of phones.

I don't get how people think that it's practical to hold up that, as Tinker-bella says, "cafeteria tray camera." Not to mention how rude it is that that size of "camera" gets in the way of everyone else when being used to take a picture.

But, then, unfortunately with today's "I am the center of the universe" attitude, those people don't care.

Maybe to you, but not to me. Every device does not need to have exactly the same specs. I have a perfectly good camera in my phone. Why do I need to use a tablet to take pictures?

I don't want to pay extra for a feature I'm not going to use. That's why different models offer different features.

There isn't 'any' camera at all in the new KF 7" HDX! That is why I am going with getting the KF-HD 8.9", when I get a Fire, because it at least has the front facing camera and according to many of the 5-star reviews for the
PicShop Lite - Photo Editor using these together you can take beautiful pictures.

I do agree totally with "cafeteria tray" tablets not being used as cameras at public events, however, and I would probably drop something that big anyway, lol!

Until you block my view, and I put a brick through it. So, maybe best not in public, yeah?

Especially when all these smartphones take jaw-droppingly beautiful photos, now.

Christine, the Kindle Fire HDX 7" has a front facing camera, designed for Skype. The new Fire HD 7" does not have a camera of any kind.

Meya,OOPS,I stand corrected it is the FHD 7" that doesn't have a camera.

How would you rate the front facing camera on the HDX in terms of mega pixels??
