I am just curious. I plug my charger in once a wk! Let it charge for a few hrs or so,but thats it. I have been very happy with my Kindle 1 and never a lick of probs.
With the seems lighter, that I do like about it. But really, the rest I dont need. Maybe Kindle 3 I would be interested in,who knows, but for now I will stick with this one.

I charge daily. In fact, I often keep the charger plugged in while I'm reading. I've had my K since last July and the battery does seem to be holding less of a charge lately. I wonder if I'll ever get that extra battery I ordered a couple months ago from Amazon.

I don't have any problems, though. And it may be that I've got such a large collection of books on my SD-card that it's taking extra power to re-index whenever I download a new purchase.

about once a week - but I don't use the Whispernet all that often

every couple of weeks I'll add a few books to the SD card - up to 15 or so - indexing does suck down the battery but not too bad - I do have over 2gigs on my SD card currently

daily. I use whispernet (or as they call it now.. whispersync.. LOL) alot.. and i have about 11 papers, blogs and magazines that download a day, that seems to suck battery life out of it since I browse alot too... so I just plug it in when I am doing something else and it does not take long to charge.. and it does have about half a battery or more when I put it on there, but like Miacheal, I have a SD card with a large collection

It depends.

If I am having one of my marathon reading weekends, where I basically sit & read for 7 to 9 hours straight, the battery goes down to about half and I have to recharge each night.

If I am only reading for 30 minutes to an hour here or there through the day, then I only need to charge every 5 or 6 days. When I say "need" I mean that I feel more comfortable topping it off so that I won't be caught with a low battery when away from home or in case of emergencies where I'm stuck somewhere for long periods of time.

Strictly an as needed charger - usually once a week. I mostly just read and only use whispernet quickly about once a day then it's off.

Having battery problems, won't last more than a day. When I first got it, the K1 seemed to last for a week!

Nightly. I keep my charger on my bedside table along with my Blackberry charger and plug in when I finish reading myself almost to sleep.

I keep my charger plugged in next to the bed and charge my K every night after I finish my bed time reading.

I usually read 4 or 5 hours a day and only use the whispernet when downloading books. When I use the whispernet I automatically put on on the charger as soon as I am done, just to top it off. I only charge it once a week and even then it is only about about half down.-Although yesterday I did notice that it had lost half it's charge in 2 days and I hadn't used it as I was reading a dtb. Everything was off so this means I better keep an eye on it in case I am going to need a new battery. I have had it for a year and never had a battery usage problem before.

Just got new Kindle - charge will only go to 7%, light gets green but it seems to drop charge very fast - is this normal?

I use my kindle on a daily basis and is "on" about 4 - 6 hours daily - mostly for reading. Whispernet is always on (unless I am on a plane). I charge my kindle approximately twice a month.

I am an as needed charger. I try to remember to turn off whispernetsync when I remember in order to conserve. I do keep a charger in my car as well, and I carry a usb charger cable just in case, but rarely need to use it. I seem to go a least a week or 2 without needing a charge.
And I read a lot, use kindle every day.

now, my iphone, that is another story, depletes pretty fast, even with location services off. I also have a velocity cruz tablet that isn't too bad on holding a charge, about a week or so, unless I get hooked on playing a game...................

I can go a week or so if I don't use the wifi or 3G. If I use the browser or active content, pretty much have to do it every couple of days. But I do spend 4-6 hours a day reading. Right now I'm charging any time I'm around a Starbucks or any place with outlets, my greatest fear is not having my Kindle to read.

Mountain Mom, sounds like your new Kindle may be defective - call Kindle CS and have them send a replacement.

I've had my K3 since January and I only charge it every week or two. I leave the WiFi on all the time and wait until the battery level has dropped to around half before I charge again. I have a lighted cover coming, though, so that may increase my charging frequency.

I have a lighted cover as well. I don't re-charge my kindle until it tells me to. I heard that re-charging before then can actually shorten the battery life

I charge overnight when it reaches the half-way point or slightly below that. If it's getting low and I want to read, I put it in landscape orientation and charge while reading. That way the cord sticks out the side, which is the straightest path from the music stand to the charger. Others turn the orientation upside down to charge while reading without damaging the cable.

1-2 times a week. I read a lot and I tend to leave the wireless off until I get the warning.

Bixillarla says:
As needed, I charge my K3 when it gets to about 25% of battery life which is about 2-3 weeks for me.

I only turn on WiFi to download new books. I don't search, play games or have any subscriptions.

Mountain Mom, what makes you think your charge is at 7%? The only visible measure is the little battery icon at the top, and 7% seems much more granular than it is capable of showing.

@JustJan... I heard just the opposite. That the battery will last longer if you "top it off" every so often, and not let it go until it "needs" to be charged. Hmmm...

T. Zwermann says:
Old rechargeable battery technology had a memory, so if you charged it at, say 50%, after a while that was all you could get. With modern battery technology, it really doesn't matter much how you charge them.

I charge my kindle about once per month, my wife once per 2 weeks. She reads an awful lot.
