I have a new set of square jellyfish earbuds that work fine on my laptop, but on my new kindle fire hdx 7, they work only for the left earbud, no sound on the right. I've tried it with and without the cover. Any ideas?

Have you tried them with various apps? Also, check under your Accessibility options and make sure Convert Stereo to Mono isn't turned on.

Thanks. I checked the Accessibility option and it was on stereo. In fact, I tried it both ways, stereo and mono, and the result on the earbuds was the same - sound through left, no sound through right. Kindle Fire HDX 7", HDX Display, Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers

Try pulling them out of the ear jack a little. Mine have to be on the first printed line on the plug in order to work in stereo.

If Artist's suggestion doesn't work (and I've experienced similar plugs over the years, I think it has to do with the contact points in the jack and where they sit) then, if you haven't already, do a hard reboot of the device. Hold down the power button for a full 30 seconds, ignoring any prompts about powering down, then when it goes dead press the button once to restart. If that doesn't work then you likely have a bad jack and need to contact Amazon Customer Service and see if they can troubleshoot it or replace it. Good luck!

Thank you Artist and Grimwinder. Neither suggestion fixed the problem, so I guess I will contacting Amazon Customer Service. Thanks again.

Amazon sent me a new Kindle Fire HDX 7. Unfortunately, same problem. My son found something on youtube that tests the channels on the earbuds. Both channels worked and they work on my laptop. Not sure what I am going to do at this point.

Yeah, I'd have to think at this point that the contacts on the earbud plug and the Kindle's jack just aren't lining up. I suppose it's possible that you got two bad HDXs with exactly the same issue, but the odds of that are probably pretty astronomical, I would think. So, as T.Cook suggests, you probably need to see if you can borrow a different set from someone to try (or get them to try it for you, if the hygiene creeps you out). If the contacts not lining up are the problem, then unfortunately I think most plug extenders would cost as must as the earbuds in this case.

Agree with T. Cook: simplest test is to buy/try a different set of earbuds...if it works on the "other" earbuds, then you have your answer.

I saw the suggestion to make sure they weren't plugged in too far, but are you sure they are plugged in far enough? I don't have a HDX, but one some of my devices I've had to push them a little harder - until they finally click all the way into the jack.

Thanks all. My computer savvy son found a pair of pansonic earbuds on Amazon that don't cost too much. I'll order a set and give them a try.
