Paperwhite - Importing Collections

I just got done (slowly) downloading the content that I wanted on the Kindle Paperwhite and failed at finding the "Import Collections" button. Since this is on the Touch, the PC software and on my iPhone Kindle app, it seemed a safe bet that the Paperwhite would allow the importation of Collections as well.

Has anyone found a way to do this? I'm not looking forward to creating the categories and then placing each book properly again.

Tap Cloud and Import Collections is there.

Here it is:

From the Home screen, select Cloud.
Select Menu and then select Import Collections.
Select the device you want to import a collection from, and then select OK.

Dittie and Bruce, thank you! In hindsight, that makes good sense.

No problem, Brian. Happy illuminated reading!

Not quite so simple, I'm afraid: it says transfer content first , then collections. I goofed - I transferred collections, all of which came up empty. Do I need to transfer EACH individual book first???

Yes. You have to download the books 1 at a time then import collections and the books will go into their collections.

Importing collections does not download the ebooks.

I imported collections first, then started downloading books. Most of the books went into the proper collection, but a few didn't and I had to transfer them manually. I know this is against the guidance, but it worked for the most part.

I'm having a problem in that I goofed and importanted collections first; now when I download a book, I can put it into a collection but it also stays on the opening menu, which is cumbersome. Should I do a factory reset and start all over again? I don't want those books showing both places, and if I remove it from the menu page, it also removes from the collections. I've only downloaded 3 books as i just got the paperwhite last night, so I can start over if I need to.

how do you have books sorted? If by collections, then yeah personally I would start over. If by any other method, they do show collections and books both on the main screen. (at least they do on the touch)

Try this first - download a few more books, then import the collections again and sort by collections. See if that works. If it does, just add books as you feel like it, and continue to re-import the collections. If it doesn't work, then the reset might be your best bet.

I feel really really stupid (it's not like this is my first Kindle, either) ... but I can't find the "sort by" option. So embarrassed! Once I find that I will try these suggestions; thanks so much.

No reason to feel stupid. . .you just didn't ever need to know.

On your Home page, above the first title, it should say "by author" or "by title" - put the cursor there and right click (or tap). You will see the choices: author, title, most recent, collections. If you choose collections, your Home page will show a list of collections, then a list of the books that are not in any collection.

I think it's something I've only done once, when I got each new Kindle, so I'd forgotten how --- THANKS! It's sorted by Collections now, and I'm going to try downloading a few more books and see whether they go into the right place. I so appreciate your help!

I am curious about one thing. You claim "Import Collections" is on the iPhone app, but where? I see no such option on my iPad, and Amazon specifically stated they would not provide one when I asked them. They also refused to add an option to group by series, which is incredibly foolish of them.

Nor I. The PC software has collections, but neither of the mobile apps. I just hope we *don't* get cover view on the older Kindles. Amazon crippled it on the Paperwhite, by using half of the screen for advertising. I paid extra for the non-"special feature" version, but they're forcing advertising on us anyway. Thankfully, list view is still available.

Hi ESS Mom -
I am on the same path as you were - but kind of missed how you actually completed the secret steps to get your Kindle PW to accept the Collections and then correctly sort the content. I think all my content transferred from the cloud. And then all my Collection folders also transferred - now how do you get the Kindle to sort them all out so the right content gets into the correct Collection. I am transferring from a Kindle Touch to the PaperWhite. I have more PDFs than books - but they were all nicely cataloged into Collections on the Touch. Now they are not in their Collections like on the Touch.

You probably have noticed it by now, but just in case you haven't - it is possible to turn off recommended reading in cover view in Paperwhite's settings :)

Please help, I'm about to throw it all out the window! I have lost all my collections! How have I done this, if I search I can find them, what have I done?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 21, 2014 3:40:36 PM PDT
When I select Cloud, then Menu, I don't see Import Collections; I see Shop Kindle Store, Kindle FreeTime, Vocabulary Builder, Experimental Browser, Settings, View Special Offers, List View, Create New Collection, Sync and Check for Items. Any advice?
