Last Word of Highlight Getting Lost on Chrome App Reader

Alan Swartz says:
I am having a problem with highlighting text on a book in the Web Reader app in Chrome browser. When I highlight some text and then go to the page and look at the highlight there, the last word is missing.

If I look at the highlight on my Fire or on my Kindle 3, the complete highlight shows up after syncing. Anything I highlight on the other devices will show up complete everywhere, including on the page.

So the problem is only showing up when I highlight on the web browser reader and then look for it on

Anybody else seeing this problem?

I am using Chrome 18.0.1025.168 on Ubuntu Linux 12.04. Everything is up to date as of today (May 7, 2012).

Really, does no one else have this problem?

Will Windows and Mac users please reply: do you have this problem or not?

Help me narrow this down.

The subset of the population who use Chrome on Linux and who also read these forums is probably fairly small.

I have the same problem with the Windows 8 tablet app. Highlights look ok in other kindles but not in my highlights summary, which breaks my export to Evernote.

Still a problem. Chrome on Linux Mint "Maya" (Ubuntu 12.04 based).

I'm seeing this on the IOS Kindle app on my iPad. The odd thing is, it's only for certain books, as highlights from another book yesterday are fine.

I've been dealing with this very frustrating problem for some time now. Using Chrome and Firefox on Windows XP, Win7, and Win8.

What's interesting is that the last word gets chopped off only after syncing. If I view the notes and highlights tab in Cloud Reader before I close the browser, my highlights are intact. Once I close the browser and then go to check my notes and highlights on, the last word gets chopped off. When I return to Cloud Reader and check my notes and highlights tab, the word is missing there, too.

Even more frustrating is that the entire passage is still highlighted in yellow in the book itself, even after it shows in the highlights tab that it is gone.

Please fix this issue, Amazon.

Have you tried including a few extra words at either end?

Good idea. But shouldn't have to, right?

Troy, what operating system (and version) and browser (and version) are you using?

Sure, but which do you want more? A solution that works instantly, or to kvetch and waste time trying to figure out WHY?

Issue seems to happen when highlights are made with Kindle app for iPad. Highlights made using Kindle for Mac show properly.

Thanks for any advice.

I seem to be having a similar problem: if I highlight on my Kindle device, the highlight appears properly when I look at my Kindle notes online; but if I highlight on my iOS devices, the last word disappears when I look at my Kindle notes online. Yet that highlight appears properly when I read the book itself, whether on Kindle for Mac, or the Kindle, or the iOS devices.

Very aggravating.
