Blank Menu Pages and Missing Titles

I've had this issue for a while, but I'm finally sick of it. When I sort my books by title on page 6 half the books are missing then pages 7, 8 and 9 are all blank. It takes ages to go between these pages. What's the deal? I don't even know what books are on here, because my calibre screwed up and I have some books on here, that aren't in my library. Tempted to just delete everything and start over...

Start with this:

Which Kindle do you have? You can find out on

It would help us to try to help you if you told us which model Kindle you have. But try one of the following:

For an e-ink screen Kindle: Try a hard reboot - hold the power switch in the 'on' position for 30 seconds (count them slowly) and then wait until the Kindle reboots - that will take some minutes. Unplug it from any power source and don't touch any keys until it reboots.

For a Fire: Try performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire. Unplug the Fire from all power sources and then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds (count them slowly) and then release. Ignore any shutdown messages. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

I have a Touch, but turning it on and off does not solve it. As I said, this issue has been going on for ages. I haven't found very much online - some say maybe it's a defective book, one guy said it might be because the title is too long. The defective book will cause it that title to be blank and then the subsequent books. It's really frustrating!

A reboot is not the same as turning the device off and on.

You should contact customer service if the reboot doesn't help.

Maybe Calibre deleted the title metadata for those books. Amazon couldn't help with that, though.

A hard reset/reboot is different to "turning it on and off". It's like the differences between turning your TV off using the remote control, turning it off using the power button, and turning it off by pulling the plug out of the wall for a minute.

So, ***have you tried a hard reset?***

Logan, I did not suggest that you turn it off and on. A "hard reboot" is what I suggested that you do. As the others have said, that is not the same as turning it off and on.

If you don't want to follow my suggestion, read on.

Use the large orange Contact Us button to the right to contact Amazon Kindle CS and talk with them about it - use the live chat or the call back feature if you can, not email. If you can't see a Contact Us button on this page, then go to and contact CS. I advise using Live Chat or the Call Me Back feature and not email, as they will have your account details available to them immediately when you talk with them.

I apologize, I meant to say that I have tried both turning it on and off as well as a hard reboot multiple times. Nothing changes. I've also changed which books are in the library to test the order. It's always the same section of books missing (bottom of 6 to 8).

I have found that the firmware update from 5.1 to 5.3.2 caused a bunch of problems. Then the bugfix update to bricked my Touch. Amazon replaced it under warranty and the "new" one came with 5.1. I keep wi-fi OFF so it can't do that update. It's a pain in the butt. I have to download my books through the PC. (There's a suspicion of the wi-fi turning itself on when connecting to the PC. Haven't tested it. The Touch does a LOT of things on its own, particularly with 5.3.)

I had a similar problem after loading books from Calibre, and it turned out my Kindle didn't handle books with the extension .mbp1 very well. No way to tell except to go into the documents folder of my Kindle through my computer. Once I deleted the two .mbp1 files I found (which coincided with the breaks in the titles), my screen went back to normal and I could see all my books again. Hope that helps!

I had this problem, and after finding this on Google, a hard reset fixed it. Thanks!
