Maybe a silly question but why is the no battery life given for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9"?

Yeah, that is odd. It may be an oversight. I'd wait a day and see if they update it.

Contacted Kindle Chat. They said "10 hours continuous" reading time. As always less with wireless on.

Scroll down, it says right on the page, 11 hours continuous use.

11 hours is the 7in HD not the 8.9

I'm betting it varies depending on whether you're using wifi or 4g

G. White says:
It's because it can't actually run on battery power, it requires continuous AC power. Just kidding.

It is a curious omission. I will be interested in seeing some published estimates from Amazon on this. It would be quite different for WiFi vs. 4G.

Battery life has been the most disappointing feature of the Kindle Fire, at least for me. I feel as though I'm always charging it, and I don't always have WiFi connected. It's a PITA to be reading, at the best part of a book, and have the unit beep at me and tell me my battery is low. And I charge to a full charge every day.

S. Beardsley says:
The Fire is designed to be a tablet and there are no tablets out there with a crazy amount of battery life. It's just the nature of the product.

If you want uninterrupted reading time, you be better off with one of the paperwhites which are designed for reading. I go weeks before having to charge mine (with wifi turned off).
