I'm considering purchasing the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" with 4G LTE -- can the device be setup as a WiFi hotspot so the data from the 4G LTE connection can be shared to other devices? Please let me know. Thanks!

I'm looking for an answer on this too - I'm starting to doubt it can.

Got the answer from the Kindle tech team -- no, it cannot be setup as a WiFi hotspot. I decided to go with the Wifi-only model.

Just saying, that it can be a client, it can use a hotspot set up through a smartphone. Interesting that the Nexus can be set up as a hotspot. Thanks for the info.

eta: I guess an iPad can now be used as a hotspot, too. I fell behind.

Ye - most tablets and smartphones can be used as a hotspot. I wanted to use the Fire to pair my laptop to it when the occasion required I had to. I only have a 3G phone (iPhone 4s) with no desire to upgrade it just for LTE.

I just got a 8.9 Fire HDX with Verizon capabilities, and it clearly has a set up procedure for using it as a hotspot. I just set one and password protected it. Will add more information after my cell phone charges, and I attempt to connect.

I have a 8.9 HDX with AT&T. If you turn the mobile network ability on using AT&T, you can then activate the Wi-Fi Hotspot option

Of course you can. Here's Amazon's instructions on how to do it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201304290
