I don't seem to be able to view my Kindle Fire when outside in daylight, is there a setting I need to change???

The most you can do is crank up the brightness and/or try to find shade to read in. You're seeing an issue inherent in all LCD displays (smartphones, laptops, etc) - they're difficult-to-impossible to read in direct light due to the way the display technology works.

Sorta. Its the find shade setting. Kinda like what you have to do to read a cell or I device.

E ink may be better for you in these sort of situations

 Ann says:
The Fire has a backlit LCD screen, which isn't very good in bright sunlight. You can try shading the screen, and turning up the brightness. If you tap the 'gear' icon, there should be a setting in there for screen brightness.

Be aware, though, that turning up the brightness will reduce your battery life.

Computer screens like the Fire are not viewed very well outside. You need an eInk to see it the best.

R. D. Clark says:
Shirley, did you think you had purchased the kind of Kindle that Amazon advertises with bikini-clad actresses reading at poolside, while disappointed actors with iPads pretend to be interested in reading in order to make time with them?

You didn't. You bought the kind that has exactly the same glare issues that an iPad has.

The actresses are using e-ink Kindles like the Touch or the $79 basic Kindle. You can send your Fire back for a refund within 30 days of purchase or, as Amazon so innocently suggests in one of those commercials, you can just buy one of each.

R.D. - Wait, was my Kindle supposed to come with bikini clad actresses? I totally missed that!

Hi Shirley,

Try turning the brightness up all the way on your Kindle Fire when reading outside.

In bed at night, I need to turn it down when I have had it all the way up.

Try turning up the shade that you're sitting under all the way.

>"Wait, was my Kindle supposed to come with bikini clad actresses"

The sales reps at Best Buy are deceptive ; I was led to believe the bikini girls were standard features, only the machine guns were optional.

A., I dunno, maybe it was a special promotion. Not sure it was such a great deal; she's getting expensive to feed and is always wanting to turn up the thermostat.

They came with mine, but Wife made me send it back. :-(

They came with mine as well, but I left them on the porch to amuse the neighbors. I don't want them competing with my gorgeous body. (snicker)

Is anyone having an issue with the kindle fire freezing up outside. Example if you are playing a game and the touch movements stop working?
