I have my dad's old paperwhite. He thought it was broken and bought another so I have his old one. I would like to get rid of some his books as they are really not to my taste. My husband made a file for mine and one for his but dad's books are leaking across to mine list. Some of the titles are quite embarassing and I wouldn't want my mother in law seeing them! Can I delete them without deleting them from his account. PS He thinks that I don't know what he has been looking at!

Start your own account?

As long as both devices are registered to the same account, BOTH devices will be able to see AND access ALL titles that belong to the account.

You can't have both. Either you STAY on dad's account, and KEEP "your" (actually HIS, since it's his account) books, or you deregister from his account, and open your own account.

But you'd have 0 books on your account. Until you bought some.

All books purchased by the account belong to the account and are available for downloading and reading by all devices registered to that account.

You can register the Paperwhite to your own account but you will lose access to all the books on your Dad's account.

You can delete the books from the device (a long touch on the book title usually brings up a menu to delete). This will remove the book from the device but not the account. The title will still show up under cloud/archive which is a list of all books in the account. As long as you keep the Paperwhite in device view, you won't see the other books.

I do have my own account that I have been buying books with. I think the device is deregistered from my dad's account but the books were not deleted as we didn't know if that would delete them on his new kindle.

Oh! No. If the device is registered to YOUR account, if you delete books off of his old device, it won't affect HIS account at all!

Just delete them off the PW, and you'll never see them again.

LOL, yeah that makes it much easier.

Thanks for the info about holding down the title for a while. I have now deleted the new "leak" onto my screens! But I seem to have lost a few of the ones I have downloaded too. They may have transferred over to "Dad's books" rather than "Christine's books". I will have to check.

Yep, they went over to Dad's books on my kindle. But now I know how to delete I can get rid of all the ones I don't want my mum or mum in law to see. Luckily his other tastes are very similar to mine. Lol.

You can always reset the Paperwhite to factory (it's in the menu under settings). This will clean the Paperwhite and it will be like a brand new unit. You will then have to register to your account and download the books from your account that you wish.

FYI - If you go here - you will find lots of info on how to use the Paperwhite (including a link to the manual)
