I have had this Kindle since Christmas and never had a problem with it till it ran out of battery life and now it won't charge or obviously turn on. I have searched the internet, but I can't figure out what to do.

Your Kindle is still under warranty, so you should contact customers service by clicking on the Help link at the top of this page, then click on the yellow Contact Us button on the right side of that page. Choose phone or chat for best results.

This has happened to me multiple times and it's an easy fix, just slide your on switch to the right and hold for about one minute, be patient...and WALA it will reboot! I hope this works for you.

My kindle died after freezing on a game, we couldn't turn it off so I just let the battery run out and now it won't turn on or charge. It's been two days and I think it's r.i.p kindle I sure hope the team at amazon can help me. This is not the first issue I had with a kindle the first one wouldnt hold a charge a I called amazon and like magic they replaced it and I sent the other one back. Wish me luck! Can you imagine a house of three kids and one un able to use the kindle. Happy holidays every one.

Allowing the battery run out is a bad idea. That might be why you cannot get it to charge.

I have got two of these. One of them seemingly died last week and I panicked! Now the other one is doing the same. Have we had an update the Kindles didn't like?

I have a kindle fire hd that has been through hell and back with me. I bricked it a few months ago by trying to install a custom recovery. so i ordered a fastboot cable and got the thing working again. just a few days ago i let my little sister use it and when i came into her room to take it back from her it was dead. so i went in my room, plugged it into my usual charger then it popped up showing it was charging and then went black. when i unplug the charger it will show that it needs to be charged. but when i plug it into charge it will jus go black again.

Devin, if you haven't tried it already, plug it in and just leave it charging. 30 minutes-+ later, go and see if the screen comes back.

On one of mine, now, if I'm playing a game, the KFHD can go black in the middle of a game run, which is a right hassle! I used to get the little pop-up requesting a charge when the battery got down to 15%. That only happens now when I'm reading - not playing. I still imagine some update has changed something...I can't put this down to anything else.

Devin, it also might be the charger. If you have another kindle or USB charger, you might try that. It might not charge as fast as a Fire charger, but any kindle charger will work on the fire. Probably any USB charger. Leave it charging 24 hours, then try a hard reboot -- hold the on button 30 seconds or so. If that fails, then try customer support. We're just customers here.

I've had my Kindle Fire for 2.5 years and I think the port is screwed up. I have to hold the cord a certain way into the port. Have tried different charger and same issue. Battery won't charge either. I had brain surgery 10 months ago and have spent a lot of time in bed or a recliner due to pain. I read a lot and can't watch tv due to noise level. I am sad as I can't afford another Kindle.

I wish I could send you a spare, Cheryl. Meanwhile, do check, (if you haven't already) to ensure your cables are in good nick. That can cause trouble with a poor connection.

Thank you Radiojock. Amazon is sending me a new charger. I have a friend who works on computers who is going to take a look at it next weekend.
Hopefully it will be fixed, otherwise I guess that will be my Christmas present. :)

Kindle Fire HD was at about 70% charge, screen flashed to black and came back, then to complete black screen. it's been on the charger over night and i have tried holding in the power button for 30 seconds several times. I don't know if its on or off now, so i can't perform a reset. Any suggestions or experience with this?
