I was thinking about possibly getting a 8.9 inch kindle fire HD but wanted to know if it would be big enough to read books on without the print being too small and without hurting your eyes? Is it easy to download books and magazines on to your kindle? Thank you.

You can make the font size as large as you need it to be. You can also change the color of the background to white, sepia or black (with white text) depending on your preferences.

It's great, and they added margin and line spacing control so you can use a large font and still get a decent amount of text on one page.

Some people's eyes hurt reading a backlit screen (like a computer screen). It's not the size of the print that hurts their eyes, it's the light coming off the screen. That's not true for everyone, though (e.g., it's not true for me).
But for reading for any longer time, I do prefer the e-ink kindles. They're just more restful on the eyes.
