I lost my old Kindle while travelling and didn't replace it for quite a while as I was reading on my iPad. Now that I have replaced my Kindle I want to download my 250+ books to my Kindle. Is there a way to do a one time transfer of ALL books in my library or do I have to click and download them individually from the cloud?

Don't download too many at one time. I suggest no more than 10 at a time because the Kindle as to index each one. Too many will jam it up.

In cases like this (since you are not the first person to ask this) we usually point out that you may not need ALL 250-some-odd books on the device at one time.

We usually recommend that you just download what you'll read in, oh say, the next 2 weeks or so. Then download some more and delete the read ones from your device.

I only keep 25 books or so on my Paperwhite, and the other 900 + in the cloud. No need (for me) to have everything I own on the device. It's like going around with a backpack filled with every book you own. It's OK to keep most of them on your bookshelf at home, just take what you immediately need. And like WhitePepper Korndle, I also delete a book from my device once its read.

The new version the Manage Your Content and Devices page will let you select multiple books to be downloaded at one time. The warnings about downloading too many at one time still apply though.

I just looked at my Manage Your Content and Devices page and could not see a way to do this. (Download multiples at one time.) Is there a secret to it?

BTW I am using IE because I am at work and that is what we have to use. :-( So, if that is the reason this is unavailable then I'll just try again tonight at home.

Hmmn...Chrome here, and it looks the same as always to me. I don't see a multiple option, either. Maybe you have to have purchased an HDX?

Nope. (I have a HDX and use Chrome.)

Well, rats. Is there something we're not clicking?

IE, Firefox and iOS all look the same to me.

I have no idea who Amazon rolled it out to. I've never seen it using IE, Firefox or Safari either.

The format that allowed multiple deletions was send to a small number of people as a test of a POSSIBLE new format for the page. It is no longer available to anyone. Whether it will reappear as an actual feature on a new format, no one here knows, and Amazon won't say anything until it's ready.

Amazon "tested" a new version of the MYK page a while back, that had the ability to deliver multiple books at one time. I believe everyone has been reverted back to the old page layout now. I don't know if the new layout will ever re-appear. It had a few nice features, but also some problems.

I have a suggestion that may or may not suit your needs but it is the perfect solution for me and for many other Kindle owners. Initially, you'll still have to download your books individually but won't get stuck or delayed by the indexing function and once you have it set up, it will allow bulk downloading and deleting to and from your devices in the future. Also, it will give you a great deal more flexibility in organizing and sorting your library, instead of relying on the limited options available from Amazon.

MY method is to use the free Calibre library management program. Whenever I buy a new Kindle book, I select the delivery option to download and transfer by usb. I use a temporary folder on my desktop named "Kindle Downloads" to make it easy to find them.

Open the Calibre program and click the "Add Books" button. You can do this individually or in bulk. Once you've added the books to your Calibre library, click "Edit Metadata" to add covers, book summaries, series information, etc. All the column s are sortable so you can organize by author, title, genre, date, series, etc. You can also add custom columns for Read/Unread, or any other criteria you find useful.

Calibre also allows you to add and remove books from your device individually or in bulk. Because it works so well and so easily, I never keep many books on my actual Kindle devices. Instead, my entire library is organized and accessible quickly and easily through the Calibre program. I never even need to use Amazon's Kindle Library page (Manage Your Content), except for the rare occasion when a book is updated and I want to replace a title with the updated version.

Here's the main download page for Calibre:

There are numerous articles and tutorials which explain how to use its features. Here are a few I find very helpful:

Best wishes. I hope you and others find my advice to be helpful and check out Calibre. In my opinion, it's the best program for anyone who has a large ebook library and wants to organize and manage it efficiently.

I have the "new" version again today. It's slightly different than the previous "new" version was. I'm seeing it on my iPad.

I'm also using the links.

Where? I'm not seeing it in iOS 7.

Oh, interesting. I hadn't seen anything about another new version before this. I wonder how long this one will be around...

Edit: I just checked, and I'm now seeing it in Chrome. I like that 'Books' is the default view, and that I can sort by oldest.

I only see it on my iPad which is the way it was the last time.

Hasn't that experimental version been dropped several months ago?

I saw it from Silk, but for a very short time (a week, perhaps).

You are right, it is back on my Silk, and it seems to struggle with my 5000+ items, as Cloud Collections do... Sigh...

Still not seeing it on FireFox.

When they first tried the new manage content and device page they had a search box so you could put the title in and it would find it for you. There is no search box now so you have the download so many titles before you can find the one you want to delete or whatever. If they have to have this new page, please give us a search box.
