Is it possible for me to buy a kindle book and have it downloaded to my friend's device instead of mine? If so, how do I do that please? Karen

A. Dietz says:
On the product page for the book click on the Give as a Gift button instead of the Buy button and enter your friend's regular e-mail address. Your friend will get an e-mail from Amazon with instructions on how to retrieve the book.

Thanks for your reply. Your instructions sound easy enough but I can't find a button that says 'buy as a gift' - maybe I'm just thick? There is a button that says 'buy with one click' another that provides an opportunity to get a free sample and another that allows me to download a kindle app. Precisely where is the 'buy as a gift' button please. Karen

It is right below the Deliver To menu. It is a yellow/orange button with a bow on it that says "Give as a Gift."

Under Buy with 1-click, it says, Deliver to ..., under that it says Give as Gift (it is a big yellow button).

ETA: If it is a free eBook, you can't give it as a gift. You would have to tell the person to get it for themselves.

You were quicker than I was. =)

No, I'm sorry but it doesn't. Under 'deliver to' it lists my devices or the cloud. There is no yellow button with give as a gift. Karen

Are you trying to purchase send a gift from the .com site or the .au site, and are you sending it to someone else in Au?

You really need to answer more than one question if you want help.

Hi Artist. Thanks. I'm in Australia and I want to send it to my friend in England. Is at possible? Karen

No

Dittie says:
It's possible if that particular title, which we still don't know, is available in both regions, that of the sender and that of the recipient. The gift button would still be there anyway. You'd hit a dead end after that if it's not available.

What is the e-book? Are you entirely certain you're looking at the e-book product page and not a print version?

Also, you can't gift pre-orders.

I don't believe you can send books as gifts from the amazon.com.au site. If you're using http://amazon.com, you should see the gift button. However, you cannot gift free books, pre-orders, or subscriptions.

I'm seeing the gift button but I'm in the US. For that matter, you're posting on the .com forum. Regardless, if I were to gift this e-book to someone in the UK, for example, and it wasn't available there because of copyright restrictions, I'd still see the gift button. The purchase just wouldn't go through after I got to the step in the process where I'd enter the recipient information.

Have you tried a different browser?

Edit to clarify

The Artist says:
I just checked on the amazon.com.au site and there is no option for gift giving. Find out which amazon her Kindle is registered to(.com or .uk), buy her an Amazon gift cert from that site, and suggest that she buy that book. That's the way we had to gift books before the Give as Gift option was available.

Edit: I checked the uk site and that book is available in Kindle format, so she'd be able to buy it using the gift cert.
