It always helps to tell us which Kindle you have.

To contact Customer Support:

Don't use the email option, but use the Phone/Call Back option (if available from your location) or the Chat option. By using the Phone/Call back option, after you send your phone number in, an Amazon Representative will call you back in a minute or two, sometimes sooner.

I have the Kindle Fire and it just started doing this as well, and of course my warranty recently went out. I was unable to renew it because Geek Squad (Best Buy) wanted close to $100.00 and in my mind that could be used towards purchasing a new Kindle...I just didn't plan on having to buy one so soon.

K. Rowley says:
I had/have a Kindle Keyboard that had a battery issue where it wouldn't stay charged long... Turned out to be an indexing issue - that and the fact I had over 1,000+ books / samples on it... Did a factory reset and wiped out everything from the device. That fixed my battery problem.

But before doing a factory reset, try doing a hard reset - hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then release.. If you have a e-ink device, wait and let the device fully reboot (it can take a few minutes) - with a Fire tablet, wait a minute or so and then turn the device back on. That sometimes will fix a battery charging isssue...

Ditto what K.R. said. Try a hard reboot first--the 30 second power button hold. If you still have problems, the factory reset has given many a Kindle a new lease on life.

I also have a kindle fire and the hard reboot has not worked. Will need to do a factory reset.... Not very excited let's hope this works..... Any ideas on what to do next if it does not work?

I would contact Kindle support before doing a factory reset. They may have other ideas. Click on help found at the top and bottom of all Amazon pages. Follow the prompts to customer service. Do not email - call them, have Amazon call you or use the chat.

Yes, happened to me. I read how to fix it. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds, called a hard shut down. Leave it off for 10 mins and start it back up. Should be fine

How long should a charge last? I have a new Kindle Fire, and I charge the battery to 100% and I don't get much use out of the device until it needs to be charged again. This is my only complaint, but it's a serious one.

Mayfayre says:
How many days is the charge lasting, and do you leave the wireless function turned on when not using it?

N. Griggs says:
I don't use the device much, and it's a good thing because the charge goes down very quickly. I don't turn the WiFi off when I'm not using the kindle.

My Kindle Fires (the original and the HDX from last year) both need to be recharged daily. My e-ink kindle keyboard and paperwhite get charged weekly. My laptop every two hours. My cell phone daily.

How quickly does it go down?

N. Griggs says:
I suppose mine is okay based on your experience. I have to charge my kindle fire daily, too.

N. Griggs says:
It has to be charged daily with minimal use. I guess I'll have to get used to it.

That is normal for tablets. I use a Dell Venue 8 Android tablet and it has to be charged daily. I do use it quite a bit during the day though.

I have 2 Fires in the house. One loses 15% of the charge per hour when not in use. The other could sit unused for days and still hold 60% of the charge. I have done the troubleshooting and it remains a mystery as to why.

My kindle won't charge when I have it laying down but when I have it sitting up it does charge. I already tried the 30 seconds thing but it still won't work. It's getting really annoying and I really want to fix it. Please help me!!!
