I did not receive "Field of Prey" on my new paper white "Toni's Kindle". I rec'd Calico Joe but not Field of Prey. My old Kindle listed as Edward's Kindle is demolished. I only use the paper white

Did you specifically send it to Toni's kindle? The default would be Edward's since they are alphabetical. If Edward's is demolished check to make sure it is deregistered. Otherwise Amazon has no way to know.

As for your problem, its not described as above. Are you connected to wifi, have you sent the book to the correct kindle, have you de-registered the "demolished" kindle from you account? You need to give more information...

How do I de-activate my old kindle? I thought it strange that on June 19 I ordered 2 books ...Calico Joe and Fields of Prey. I rec'd Calico Joe and just finished reading it. Now that I' ready to read another book I discover that I never rec'd it. Frustrating!

I would go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" on the computer and under the Devices tab find Edward's Kindle. On the left side there is a place to click deregister.

Go to the Manage Your Kindle webpage, and de-register the E - so only your Toni device is listed, which will then become the default.
You can see that on the Amazon webpage for any book you might purchase...

I thought my son did this for me when he tx. all my other books to the new paper white. Also.......I ordered both books at the same time so why would only 1 appear on my new kindle? I checked my order and I was charged for both..

Well, I'm not sure anyone here can answer WHY that happened with any degree of certainty. Whomever was doing the buying would have (obviously) had to buy the books in two separate transactions from each individual product page.

Each time you purchase a book from the website (as opposed to from a Kindle itself), you have to toggle where you want the book to go. It's possible that on one book someone toggled that particular Paperwhite as the delivery target, but on the other book, they forgot to toggle, so it went to whatever is listed first, OR they accidentally toggled to something else (maybe Cloud Reader, for example).

But again, there's no way to know for sure "why".

The other thing I thought of was that it's possible one book downloaded via wi-fi, but then someone picked the Kindle up and walked away somewhere there wasn't wi-fi, and the download was interrupted.

Or the internet access was interrupted during the download.

Maybe because the other one was erroneously sent to your defunct Kindle. To get it on your current Kindle, just tap on the word "Cloud" on your Home screen, search for the title, and tap the title when it comes up in the search results. It will then download to your Paperwhite. (It might prompt you to turn on the wireless signal if you've got the PW in Airplane mode.)
