Cassie Anne says:
Your best bet is compare and contrast features yourself. There's a great table at the bottom of each Kindle's product page that summarizes the similarities and differences.

Do you want a tablet, or an e-ink Kindle? Do you want audio? Do you want/need 3G/4G?

Peter, the reading experience on a Fire is going to be completely different from what you're used to on your 1st gen kindle. I personally prefer the eInk your old Kindle uses for reading over the Fire's screen.

I would recommend the Paperwhite; I bet you'll love it!
