An interesting article with links to support what he's saying. But the basic premise is that if the government has front-lit Kindles in their specs, and if Amazon is supplying Kindles that fit those specs, then there's a front-lit Kindle on the horizon.

Front-lit won't please everyone, but it's a feature that I would like.

Thank you Jeff!! I saw other postings about the DOS ordering the Kindles but wasn't aware that people were talking about the front-lit part of the contract. That's what's really important to me is the front-lit. I did search to see if other headings on front-lit purchased by the government were out there before posting and didn't see any and all I saw were generic headings about the purchase.

It depends on if "front-lit" means LED glow lights like are on the Nook Glow.

"Front-lit" could just be the opposite of "Back-lit". So that having a light shining on the front, due to any external light source on a reflective screen could be a sort of "front-lit". I hope not!

And anyway, I haven't seen B&N yet come out with something that Amazon didn't try to match. So I'm 99% sure that at some point, they will come out with a Kindle w/ a glow light like the Nook.

I wouldn't mind getting a lighted Kindle if it were not limited to the Touch model. I don't want Touch and I'd rather keep using my external light.

I hope it isn't the same technology. There are at least a dozen reports of tiny light leaks showing up on the Nook ST/G forum, and that is a very low traffic forum.

Having seen the Nook STG and knowing how it works, I don't think the technology is very good. It lowers resolution, lets light leak all around the bezel, and is way too prone to damage from even tiny scratches.

Is it wrong that when I saw the contract included 50 ebooks, I wondered if Hillary just wanted to read Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy?

I think she has better taste than that.
Her books were very well written.
