Blank calendar icon on carousel

I have a brand new Kindle Fire HD 8.9 32gb, and the calendar icon on the carousel keeps turning gray (blank). I've reset my tablet to factory defaults numerous times; however, this only helps for a short while. Within a week the calendar icon turns blank on the carousel. I've spoken with Customer Service several times...and as of today - they've been no help. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I spoke with Amazon Customer Service a couple more times about this issue; however, they were absolutely no (zero) help. I am a bit surprised that no one from Amazon has made an attempt to solve this problem...as up until now - I've had a very high opinion of Amazon support services. For a brand new tablet - this should not be happening. Sorry I don't have better news.

The same is happening to me, I can't keep reading back to factory settings, the email takes ages to set up. I hope a solution comes up soon?

Well...within a few days after I received the 8.4.3 update - the calendar icon reverted back to solid gray (blank). It's obvious to me there is some type of software bug in the operating system. Although Amazon's competitors (Apple, Microsoft, Google, Samsung, etc...) aren't perfect, I dare say they'd fix a bug this visible and irritating. I'm now convinced that Amazon doesn't give a rip about producing a bug-free software product. This blank icon issue has been reported for a very long period of time...and unfortunately, it's still showing up in new Fire HD 8.9" tablets.

Anything is possible regarding this blank icon issue. However, I've spoken to Amazon Customer Service on numerous occasions regarding this problem - and if you read through the forum blog postings...you'll see that others have contacted them as well. This type of bug has to be researched, tested and corrected by Amazon Software Engineers. I've been in and around technology for a very long period of time...and in my somewhat educated opinion - this is a software bug.

Looks like I'm having the same problem on my kindlefire HD I've had it since Xmas and just now my calender icon is grey very annoying maybe be we just need a bug fix update Soon . I've done everything suggested but nothing works so I hope this forum is monitored and our kindled are fixed asap .

I just had this same thing start today on my HD 8.9. I have tried everything except for a factory reset. I was wondering if someone has found another solution before I do something that drastic.

*Tap on Applications
*Tap on All Applications
*Tap on Launcher and then "Clear Data"

**Return to the previous screen.

*Tap on Amazon Kindle and then "Clear Data"

It may take a few minutes for all of your books to reappear. Despite the warnings you WILL NOT lose your books by doing this.

Not going ''swiping down'' going to More/Applications/Installed Applications and THEN... going to ''Appstore'' and forcing it to stop CLEARING the data and going back to the homescreen.

They suggested I deregister my Kindle, but if you do that you are going to have to download all your apps from the cloud I think with possible data loss.

When I read that was what was going to happen via the popup as I went to deregister I stopped and told them no because it clearly states there could be data loss and and will have to redownload
your apps from the cloud.

What worked for me, getting that Calendar app to show up again was the next suggestion from a ''Kindle Specialist''.

He basically told me to follow the directions in the previous post above, but FORCE STOP ''Launcher'' instead and clear the data and... sure enough it was there.

I reccomend if you try this you remove the blank Icon from the Carousel first.

You will have to reapply your time zone setting and get that introduction to Kindle again but it worked.

None of my app data seems to have been lost.

Hope this helped someone.

This issue impacts Kindle HDX, too. Disappointing that there isn't more solid info from Amazon on how to fix it or if they are working on a fix.

I called Kindle help, and the second (higher up) tech asked for the app version and then informed me this is a widespread problem and they would contact me re an update (whenever that will be). In the meantime, I wish they'd put the date next to the time on future updates.

This makes the Kindle useless.
And tech support is defensive and unable to help.
Would not recommend this device to anybody.

When I called tech support, the rep was very thorough and was obviously checking with others about this issue, and he finally told me they were well aware of the problem. Then 2 days later my calendar app was no longer grayed out. I suspect this will be remedied because it's a widespread problem. Meanwhile, I experienced an "update" yesterday (6-6-14), which changed the email app and who knows what else.
