My account has 3 paper whites, 3 kindle keyboards, 1 kindle fire, 1 kindle 1 and multiple iPads and several kindle apps. We have a large archives which we share. My problem is with the newest paperwhite, I don't seem able to keep collections from showing up on all the paper whites. Any suggestions?

Nope, you are screwed. Amazon created what it calls Cloud Collections. It's for the Paperwhites, HDXs and I think the second generation HDs. Your collections are duplicated across all those devices. If you create a collection on one of them then that collection is created on all the others. If you remove a book from a collection then that book is removed from the same collection across all the devices.

And it is the specific reason that I refuse to buy anything except the basic. I have a KK and a basic that I keep different collections on. Plus other family members have KKs and Basics that they keep their own collections on. If those collections migrated universally across the devices I wouldn't stop using the Kindle entirely but I would start stripping the DRM from the files and sideloading them instead.
