So if my husband and I each have a kindle, and we use the same Amazon account, can he put "my" books on his Kindle? Can the book be put on two Kindles at the same time? I'm confused as to how this works. Thanks in advance for your help.

Books belong to the account not the device so yes, you will both be able to read all the books on the account.

Edit - Most books, if limited, are limited to a maximum of 6 devices at the same time.

FABULOUS! Just ANOTHER reason I am loving this whole Kindle thing.... (newly addicted! LOL). Thank you for your quick response. The people here are so helpful and friendly. I have gotten SO much great help and info from this forum. Thank you again.

Yes, books "owned" by the account can be download to all the devices registered to the account, with some limitations. Most books can only be actively on 6 devices simultaneously.

Our new Kindles arrived today. One for my husband, and one for me... and both of them are registered to the same account. I downloaded a freebie book (Huntress Moon) to my kindle, but when I try to download the SAME book to my husband's kindle I get a message from Amazon saying "Our records show that you already purchased Huntress Moon (The Huntress/FBI Thrillers) on a previous order." It won't let me download the same freebie book to my husband's kindle. What am I doing wrong?

Dragi Raos says:
Tracey, don't try to *buy* the book again. Either send it to your husband's device from your page (hover over "Actions" button, choose "Deliver to..."), or, even simpler, have him go to Archived Items/Cloud on his device and download the book from there.

Archived Items (a.k.a. Cloud on Fire) is the list of books your account owns, not yet downloaded to the device from which you are looking. Click/tap on a book there and it will download and open (the wireless connection must be on, of course - otherwise, you need to use USB transfer - ).

Yes - register the device to Amazon with his log in info. That links the device to Amazon so you can get Amazon content.

Registering for your email is an entirely different step. Check the User Guide for more info. Lots of good info here, including a pdf User Guide:

I found it helpful to read through the UG on my computer while I fiddled with my Kindle for the first time.

Just bought 2 Kindles - one for my 87 year old Dad and one for my 30 year old son, who has learning difficulties. They will be reading completely different books. As both Kindles are associated with my Amazon account, can I download different books to each one?
Thanks in advance :)

Yes! Your Archive, here online, will show ALL your books (his, his, yours). But each Kindle will only have what you choose to send to it.

B. Morris says:
Just a note from someone who has done this. My wife and I have his and hers Kindles and it's great. While usually our reading tastes are completely different (True crime and mysteries for her. History and Techno-thrillers for me) there are times when we are interested in the same bok. When that happens it's great because unlike with a traditional book we can both read the same book at the same time. This happened with J K Rowlings new (and to be honest horrible) book The Casual Vacancy. We read it at the same time and were able to talk about it as we read it.

So if you are someone who is thinking of doing the his and hers Kindles it's a great idea.

Ahhhh, Kindle symbiosis! :0)

My symbiosis hasn't been kindled in some time. My wife has been mad at me for something.

Apologize immediately. It doesn't matter for what. Anything will do.

No, the kindles have to be registered with the same amazon account in order to share the books.
