Samples are not stored in the Cloud or on Manage Your Kindle, so no need to delete.

well... on my iPad they show as available on the Cloud and not available on the device... I can't find a way to get rid of it.

I'd like an option to remove samples myself. Sooner or later they clutter up the interface if you download a lot of samples to preview a lot of books. I'd also like an option to remove 'loaned from library' books in my Kindle Cloud Reader list.

You can remove samples. Just remove them like you would any book.

You can't remove them like "any book". We're talking about removing the sample from appearing in our library, not removing the actual data containing the text. Yes you can delete the content from your device like any book, but we want the icon to go away after we've read the sample. Right now there is no way to do that. So if you have sampled 10 books, there are 10 additional icons cluttering up your library.

The option to delete is not offered on the iPad Kindle app; the only options are only to Download or Add To Collection. A single tap starts the download on both list and grid views. Tap and Hold brings up the aforementioned options. A swipe in the list view starts the download. Deleting the entire app and reinstalling it does not remove the Samples. The samples do not show up online under Manage Your Content And Devices. It appears the only way to remove a sample is to buy the book, then delete it, which is of course idiotic. Is the assumption that you're going to buy every book you sample? I'm going back to iBooks for previews, which probably means I'll also buy the books I like there as well. Until it gets fixed on Kindle.

Apparently it is rocket surgery and brain science. I develop and code apps for a living so trust me when I say that swipe>delete does not work on the iPad kindle app on an iPad 2 in iOS 7.1.1 on downloaded samples of books.

If the option is there to download, then they aren't downloaded.

Okay, you aren't getting it.

I'm looking at A Book on Amazon. I click on the option to Sample the book. I go to my iPad and Download the sample book. I read the sample. It stinks, so it delete the sample from my library. The problem is that's the icon of the book cover with the Sample Banner in the corner won't go away. There is no way to remove it once you've downloaded the sample. The sample book is no longer downloaded, you've read it and decided not to buy it but the only options are to download the book again or add the Sample Book to a collection. So every time you download a sample book, even after you delete it, the icon of the Sample Book remains in your library. So many of us have dozens of these icons cluttering up our libraries with no way to remove them.

What version of iPad, Kindle app, and iOS do you have.

iPod touch 4, iPad mini iOS six, and my granddaughter's iPad 4 iOS 7.

ETA: all have the most recent Kindle app versions. I also have an iPod touch 2 here and it works the same way. That's the way they've always worked.

Okay I just downloaded a new sample and was able to delete it. But I can't do it with any old samples.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 14, 2014 7:38:45 AM PDT
I wonder if it has to do with only deleting on the device it was originally sent to? I have a different iPhone and iPad than when I got these old samples.

Dittie says:
I don't keep samples longer than the time it takes to read them so I don't know what to tell you other than the usual, delete the app and then reinstall it.

Posted on Jun 14, 2014 7:43:02 AM PDT
Yeah deleting and reinstalling doesn't work. Thanks for trying though.

It could be. I don't have any old samples to test that.

I am disappointed with this lack of ability to delete the sample/icons from my Paperwhite device too. My original Kindle was a 2nd generation and it was so easy to load a bunch of samples, read, then choose which to buy and then clear my device with a simple "delete sample" function. This fault on the Paperwhite really discourages me from trying samples as I do not like the clutter. Amazon, please fix this!!

CBRetriever says:
huh? when I press on a sample title and selete delete from the menu it disappears completely but it has always had to be done sample by sample - maybe you're putting them in a collection and that's causing some sort of ghost retention

and if you want to tell amazon, you need to tell them by emailing them at kindle-feedback@amazon.com as this is a customer discussion board and not a conduit to Amazon's ears/eyes

My face is red. Just got the Paperwhite and did not realize that there is a delete function by pressing on the icon! Thanks so much. Just removed my annoying sample icons because of your directions. All is well.

My 2nd Generation had the external keyboard and worked differently. I wasn't used to a touch screen.
