Mr. G. says:
Does anyone know if the new Kindle Fire has a lock feature with password protection?

You can lock the Fire with a password that is needed to turn it on. Hope this helps!

No, there no manual that comes with it... There is also no way to have your kindle ask for your password before completing an app, music or video purchase.... THAT is the deal breaker for me, because i had bought it more for my kids than for me... oh well...

The manual on the kindle fire is in the Docs section.

"Lock" is for screen rotation.

"Security" in the Settings section allows you to set a password as short as four characters.

There are a number of settings that may prevent kiddies from downloading apps and such w/o permission. I am not in the mood to retype the entire manual here.

Yep, I have the password enabled on my Kindle. When you start it up, you see the time and the orange bar that you need to drag to the left. Then a password screen will popup along with a textbox and a keyboard. My password is about 12 characters long (since I'm really just horrible with passwords in general). I love it since I wont have to worry about people messing with my stuff without my permission. :)

Is there any way to keep the Kindle Fire from locking if it's unlocked while plugged into power? I listen to music with it plugged into the charger and it's very annoying to have to unlock it to pause the music. My other Android devices have this option and will stay unlocked if on external power.

We have multiple original Kindles in the household and plan on adding a Fire to the mix. One of the original Kindles we hope to pass on to one of the kids. Can some of the content be locked out?

Bufo Calvin says:
Randy, to set a password:

Settings Gear - More - Security - Lock Screen Password

Roland, to change the Screen Timeout setting:

Settings Gear - More - Display - Screen Timeout

You can set Never for the timeout, if you want.

hhWheatRidgeCO, all compatible Kindle store books are available to all devices registered to the account...no lock out for specific devices at this point.

If you deregister it from the account after downloading the books, they will stay on the older Kindle and that child will not be able to download from the archives.

Note: deregistering a Fire removes downloaded Kindle store books...that's a big change.

Gah! What are the odds? My son was just playing with his newly-bought Kindle Fire, screaming with happiness at the top of his lungs. Then the next morning, I wake up at 5:00 to find that my son is waking up at least this early to play on the Kindle Fire. Then I learn that he can't access it because he forgot the password to it. Then, 8 days later, guess what happens. My wife does the exact same thing to her Kindle Fire! Somebody please tell me there's a solution to this chaotic disaster!
