And this relates to Kindles..............how?

T. Cannon says:
And, just curious, what does this have to do with Kindles? Or are you just spouting your political views in an inappropriate forum?

I think you've wandered into the wrong forum. I don't think you can get more off-topic than this.

I am terribly sorry. You are right. This post has no business here. I swore I hit the "politics" forum button. But, clearly it was the kindle one. I will delete it immediately.

Enjoy the politics forum! :0)

Sidebar: I would like to take this opportunity to point out to the resident Net Nannies (you know who you are) that no one tore j.j. a new one for what was clearly a mistake.

Everyone just good naturedly inquired as to whether he was sure he was in the right place. A few smiles were shared, and all is well. So the next time the "attack" theme comes up, you remember this thread, okay?

J.jones says: I do have a Kindle and it is addictive. I am interested in buying the HD 8.9. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts on it?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 19, 2014 10:07:03 AM PST
Most avid readers consider the Fires to NOT be Kindles. Fires are media consumption tablets which happen to run the Kindle app. They are NOT ideal for reading.

That said, I have the HD 8.9 1st gen and love it for streaming, and web purposes. A little heavy to hold; the prop-up-able cover makes a world of difference.

It's a fun toy.

I have the HDX 8.9" Kindle Fire. I love it--it's much lighter than my original 7" (1st generation) Kindle Fire, and I got the model that has the 64 GB of storage. I don't know much (other than what's on the product page) about the HD 8.9", but unless you need the HDMI port, I'd go for the HDX. Since I have an Android phone, I'm able to get some of the free apps from Google Play that aren't available in the Amazon store. There are also other options to get free apps that may not be available from Amazon.

I would never get rid of my e-ink Kindles (I have three), but the Fire is a nice addition.

Thank you for that input. I have a "true" Kindle then. I was intrigued by the Fire, but maybe I will be too distracted by its bells and whistles. I need to read.

I love my paperwhite for reading. Like Flipoid I read on the e-ink and play on the Fire.
