We have a new, free software update available for Kindle Fire. This update brings additional parental controls to Kindle Fire, including the ability to password-protect purchases, disable access to specific content libraries, and block access to the web browser. As with all software updates, these new features will be delivered automatically to your Kindle Fire.

Please pass this on to the tech department..

When I get a sample book I can't dowload them onto a new kindle fire
like books / apps and magazines I bought.

They aren't stored in Amazon's Cloud.

So in order to get these sample books onto my new kindle I have to type them in
and do a search to find them ..then download them.

Plus I lose all bookmarks for the samples.

I can't send in my old kindle Fire that was replaced until I go thru my old kindle fire
and write down each sample book so can download them again. i have to get them from the old kindle fire because the cloud doesn't store them.

Is there a chance that the tech department can add sample books to the cloud with bookmarks in the future ?

Thanks

Rhetorical question...

Rainer Rocks - I like to keep my samples, too, but they are only stored locally on the device. You can download and install Kindle for PC or Mac and store them there so that you have an extra copy. That's what I do.

You can find those apps here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_cn?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200783640

ETA - I keep a Collection called Samples.

Very interesting!

What is meant by "specific content libraries"? I'm not going to be able to do the update right away...

Thanks!

For other Kindle owners:

You can do the update manually from here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=help_search_1-6?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200790620&qid=1336067961&sr=1-6

After you do that, I believe you can go to

Settings Gear - More - Parental Controls

to see the new restriction options...I'd love to hear about what you see there

Thanks so much pineapple..very helpful !

Amazon should give samples their own tab this way i don't have to weed thru all my books to find the samples.

Have a great day !

They've been too busy adding parental controls. Maybe Collections will get some love next. ;-)

Old Rocker, would you mind going to

Settings Gear - More - Parental Control

saying yes (make sure you remember or write down your password) and reporting what options you see?

Thanks!

I just downloaded the app for my phone this way I can put all future sample
books on it.

I still have to manually find and download all my original
sample books and look for my bookmarks this time...I wish
i could copy and paste the sample titles from old kindle fire onto the search link but i can't. I have to type each one in ..ugh !

Well now with the kindle app on my phone this will never happen again.

Thanks again..appreciate your help :)

Web Browser - Blocked/Unblocked

Password Protect Purchases On/Off

Password Protect Video Playback On/Off

Block and Unblock Content Types Newstand/Books/Music/Video/Docs/Apps

Password Protect WiFi On/Off

It looks like anyone can still reset to factory defaults without a password check, which is what my grandkids seem best at.

Rainer, I know it used to be true that the samples did not have DRM (Digital Rights Management) on them keying them to one device.

That meant you could move the actual files from one Kindle to another. You could also move the associated information files (mbp or tan) to have any annotations you've done.

I'm not sure if that's still true, or if it's true for all file types (I haven't tested it with KF8...Kindle Format 8, for example).

Old Rocker, that's very helpful!

If you choose that Block and Unblock Content Types, I presume you can't choose a specific book...but you could say that, say, the Newsstand is blocked?

Edited to add: yes, they can reset...but then they aren't registered to your account, so they can't get to anything in your archives (Cloud) anyway....

In reply to an earlier post on May 3, 2012 11:37:17 AM PDT
Rainer Rocks - If you download them to Kindle for PC or Mac you can keep them in a Collection. And since they're not DRM protected or encoded to a specific device you could sideload them on to your Kindle if you ever have Kindle problems again.
