I don't know what it does I want done, and would like it to go away unless there is some value I don't see.

Probably fine if you have a few books, but I've got an awful lot. Any way to get rid of it or organize it or delete things from it or hide it or something?

Other than being cute, it seems to me to be an irritant.

Edit: Overall the Fire is excellent and I love it. This is the Geek in me coming out. I want to submit change requests into CM.

It's on the Fire.

I would be happy if they reduced the size of it. Some of the icons for apps look terrible when blown up like they are and it takes up way too much real estate on the home page IMHO. Having your most recent items listed is fine, but I would like the option to tweak it a bit or even remove it if we want.

NG I was wondering the same thing. Can you customize the Home page of the Kindle Fire and get rid of the carousel? It shows all books from your archive or now cloud and I am not sure if there is anyway to delete them to not be seen, it is kinda like a recent history of everything you have opened. Would love to customize

I don't have my Fire yet, and I already dislike the Carousel.

Yeah I hope they will do a update so that you have the option to hide or remove it.

The problem is any web page, book, app or contact etc. that you look at or open shows up in carousel on your home page for anyone to see that picks it up. Maybe there is a way to delete the items or the carousel all together, just could not figure out a way to do that yet, just got fire today

L. Housley says:
i would be really happy if it didn't show my entire archive and only showed the books actually downloaded to the fire. I don't want everyone to know every book i've purchased.

This will certainly save time later ;-) Seriously, I don't think there is currently a way to do that. I couldn't find any options to modify the interface.

I didn't like it at first, but it is growing on me. I think as you add more and more to favorites the screen basically fills up with shelves - maybe the carousel scrolls out of sight.

This sounds like a major drawback; I've just about decided that when my Fire arrives, I'll refuse the package and will re-order when they've fixed this issue. In the meantime, I'm content with my two K3's.

Yes, my wife picks up my fire to show it to her friends and there are all my books and web pages front and center. If it is necessary for some reason (archive portal) I would like to hide it. Maybe put a clock and weatherbug and the market in front of it.

Edit: Overall the Fire is excellent and I love it. This is the Geek in me coming out. I want to submit change requests into CM.

I would like if you were able to disable it, but it is not the biggest problem as well. But I would rather it go right to my favorites instead.

I received mine yesterday and agree that hiding the Carousel should be an option. (Maybe someone at Amazon will read this thread.) I understand the logic - easy access to what you were just looking at - but yeah, if you're excited to show it to someone they will see web pages you've recently accessed, etc. It's not that I have anything to hide but still....

In any case, it's not a deal breaker for me and I imagine Amazon will address this in a future update.

I think I would like the carousel to have only things I put/left there or Amazon just delivered.

But it IS a great gadget. Looking forward to the next update (I've got 6.1.)

J. Davidson says:
You can at least clear the last web pages visited from the carousel by clearing the history on the web tab.

That is a good tip, J. Davidson.

I agree, good tip deleting web history to get it out of the Carousel.

I wonder if Silk needs/uses the Fire's web history for its predictions or it keeps user data. You shouldn't have to do this.

Some of us have well over 1,000 books/documents. Do I want all this on display on a carousel? Absolutely not. What a waste of space. I deleted the Kindle PC for the same reason. There was no way to keep the entire archive of book covers from downloading and it made trying to use the computer a nightmare because of the constant refreshing while all those covers tried to download. I wrote to Amazon about it and basically got a "we're sorry but we don't have a fix for that" response. I do have Kindles, but I use the Kindle app on a variety of devices and use the most appropriate one when I want to read.

I will return the Fire if there is no way to control what shows on the carousel.

Posted on Nov 16, 2011 7:44:29 AM PST
I have to agree. The carousel needs to be given some basic options. The ability to limit what it shows, remove items from it, and even turn it off. Everyone who dislikes it the way it is should not only post here, but email Amazon about it.

One thing is for certain. The first time that someone who has highly erotic books or visited porn sites leaves their Fire laying around and it's picked up by a child and the parent finds out... Amazon will be very quick to eliminate/update the carousel.

I sent an email to CS about the lack of controls on the carousel and asked if a fix is being prepared for release in an update. Probably not, but if enough complain, maybe it will happen. I'd hate to have to return the Fire over this, but it is a big deal for me. I learned with the PC app that your library becomes unmanageable when dealing with so many documents/book titles.

I hide the carousel by pulling up my favorites bar. Then I don't have to look at it.

Nobody says:
I like traveling light. On my other Kindles, I'd keep just a few titles and rely on archives when I wanted something else. I like the text (not graphic) list -- a nice, clean home page. The carousel is a huge negative for me. It makes the Fire hard to tame.

T. E. Maddox says:
Yeah, the carousel is just the most recently used items. I can live with that.

It was a strange decision though to include every book I have purchased on my previous kindles. I mean on the fire they are not "recently used" since they have never been downloaded or opened.
