Try rebooting it.

Since you do not specify which Kindle you have, here are instructions for all models:

For the Fire:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

For e-ink Kindles:
For 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation, Touch and DX Kindles:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Kindle.
Slide the power switch over (or press the power button) for 30 seconds (count them).
PUT IT DOWN AND DON'T TOUCH IT. It may take a few minutes to reboot.
Then turn on wireless and your books and Collections will repopulate.

For 1st Generation Kindles:
Leave it plugged in. Slide the cover off the back, and insert a paper clip or similar tool into the reset hole on the back.

HDX - books downloaded from Amazon direct stay queued no matter how many times rebooted. So I read on regular 6" Kindle. I thought connecting via USB to get book would work, but all folders are empty (including "Book" folder), so good thing I have regular reader.

I think Customer Service sent me this info - somehow I received a link to Amazon page that supplies an "app" - little green Android guy to "boost" wireless connection. After requesting the app (free), rebooting by holding the off button 20 seconds, and then doing a "sync" - the green guy actually downloaded - I was able to tap on it until it said it was boosting my wireless connection. Then "queued" books could download too. This is not a permanent boost, I need to do it every time I want book(s) downloaded. However, my wireless connection is not strong enough (at home) for more complicated stuff - like Internet or even the "user manual" that's supposed to be available from the Help menu. The error message always says could not find wireless, or wireless not available try later. I live in rural woods.
Hope this provides a clue to help. I stumble around with Google searches and this help site - all helpful tips. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

My last book Man Interrupted was a best seller and was optioned for a film. My new book Almost Texas is on sale for 99 cents at Kindle below and has a nice blurb from Mel Brooks. Please check it out below. The Book version is about 8 dollars. best James. Almost, Texas

James, self-promotion is not allowed in this forum. I suggest you remove your post before Amazon does it for you. And ordinary forum netiquette says you shouldn't hijack a thread with a completely-off-topic post anyway.

An apology and swift removal of your post would still make you look good; anything else is likely to get you added to a whole lot of forum regulars' Do Not Buy lists.
