Just got a kindle touch, it's my first kindle, so not sure - is it normal for the screen to flash black when you navigate around? Anyone? Thanks!

That is normal, that is how eink clears the screen before it displays the next screen.

In the settings you can set it to flash black after about 5 or 6 page turns rather than every page turn.

How do you do this? I see a page refresh option (on or off) but it didn't change the flashing with every new screen

That is how e-ink works. When you move the screen it has to rewrite the page.

Mine is doing the same thing, but this cannot be normal. It flashes several times black and then white and then finally displays the page. This happens every few pages, after "normal" refreshes. The normal refreshes ghost momentarily and then display, but the black flashing page is too extreme. I've just called Amazon and they said it's not normal and are sending a new Kindle Touch. I hope this isn't a sign of what operating the device will be like, because it's totally not acceptable.

If you are just reading a book then it only flashes when you change the page. If you are using the browser and move around the page it will keep flashing until you stop moving around.

If that's true, then it's incredibly lame and I'm not sure I'll be able to keep it! That will drive me nuts.

It's not really lame - it's how eink works. If you can't handle it, send it back and get the refund (if you're in the first 30 days). If you give it a little while, most people get used to it. Most of us that use eink start blinking at page turns. Then you don't see it at all.

Jess, I'm all about Christmas and the whole bit. I have a young daughter who I'll bet my bottom dollar is going to about scream over her new Kindle. That said, I'm not about lazy, and this OP begs a swift kick. Good on you that you are forgiving. Still, the "Merry Christmas to you, too" response belies your other side, maybe. Julie, I'm sorry Jess and I polluted your post here. Merry Christmas, and good luck with your reading.

Hm, that's why the Kindle sells so much better than the Nook and Kobo combined, right?
The Nook also does the flashing thing. All e-ink devices do. And the ads are a choice. But you don't care what I write, you just want to do some kindle-bashing. Why do you even care if you don't have a reader?

Kelly I agree with u , i got my new kindle and its not the regular quick refresh but a longlish black refresh which happens after every 4-5 pages. Extremely irritating while reading. I explained to amazon and their rep has agreed to replace my piece. Seems like a production defect. In amazon's defence I would say their cust service has been very prompt to response.Hope the new kindle will not have this snag

How do you do this? I only see the page refresh option which is on or off. Mine flashes between every page or every time I touch anything to navigate around. I would love to switch it to flash between every 5 or 6 pages.

Mine seems to flash every page now, hadn't noticed it this bad before, have tried turning the page refresh thing on and off but makes no difference. I have reset it as well but to no avail.
My cousin has one and hers doesn't seem to flash as bad as mine.
Anyone have any thoughts on this.
Does it sound normal or not
