My kindle hasn't arrived yet but I ordered a couple of free and 99 cent books that I now want to permanently delete. Can I delete it under the "manage your kindle" section? Or do I do it on the kindle?

Malachi says:
While the book is underlined in the 'home' page, push the directional controller to the left and you'll be able to delete the file.

Can you delete the books permanently, as in from your Amazon account so they never seen or heard from again?

amazon holds on to your books, however if it's within 7 days of buying them they will refund and take the book out of your account. That's why i suggest not actually buying a book until you are ready to read it so you can make sure it's what you want

You can delete books from your Kindle account - but not on the "Manage your Kindle" page.

Go to your media library through your Amazon account (go to "Your Account" on the top of any Amazon page, sign in, scroll down to the "Digital Content" section, and select "Your Collection" under the "Media Library" heading.) Select the book you want to eliminate by checking the box next to it. Then select that you want to move it to the trash. Once you've done that it will be gone from your Kindle library.

It does stay in the trash though. There does not seem to be a way to delete it from the trash.

Wow. I used to get my books by picking them out of the trash. Now I can pick them out of the eTrash! They've thought of everything!

Moving books to trash has no effect for me on the Kindle app on iPhone, or on my Kindle 1, which has software version 1.2 (299870016). Maybe Amazon removed this feature in an update?

Yes, Roderic, that's exactly how it works. If both Kindles are on the same account they can each download the same book. You would purchase it and send it to one of the Kindles first, but then the other Kindle could also get it downloaded. So you both could be reading the same book at the same time, having only paid for it once.
It doesn't work for newspapers, though - that's one subscription, one Kindle only.

I just spent an hour on the phone with customer service and the final answer was "you cannot delete ebooks from the trash". This is very annoying, since ebooks in the trash still show up on my Kindle (1) and my IPhone. Customer service suggested I send a comment to Kindle feedback and request a software change.

Question, how long to sample books stay on your kindle, (I have the kindle2) and can you delete them if they don't delete themselves?

MOM2JTV says:
There is no time limit. You must manually delete them.

My question is are the off the Kindle 2? Or are they still on there taking up space on the Kindles hard drive?

They're off the Kindle.

Dawn, you can delete the books from your Kindle. They will always remain listed in your archived items because that is how you redownload them. But they can definitely be romoved from the Kindle.

With the 3G it's really easy. Just go to the 'Manage Your Kindle' page online and find the book in Your Kindle Library. At the end of each line there will be a button that says 'Actions'. Just click 'delete from library'. A few seconds later your kindle screen will flash as it synchronizes with the internet, and the book will disappear from your kindle. If you ever decide you want to read it again, you'll have to repurchase it.

If you have some other kindle other than the 3G, I have no idea how to delete books.

even w/ the 3G kindle there are some books that can not be deleted ever---or until they finally make a program that allows it. I have 4 books on my kindle that I tried getting deleted first I tried the manage your kindle area, then a call to customer service and still no luck. I got told its a program issue and that not all books are able to be deleted. I think all the books unable to delete should have a note next to the area where you one click so you will know in advance not able to be deleted. I also had one person from customer service say that it shouldn't matter since you can put x amount of books on it. I explained that if I don't like a book I buy I can give it away never to bother me again it should be the way w/ the kindle. Why should I be forced to keep a book I don't want for what ever reason I don't want it. I have deleted other books I didn't want to be bothered w/ any more I wish it was like that w/ all of them. It's the only thing I don't like about my kindle and it pains me to say anything bad about it...

Does anyone know how to move books that have been read from a Kindle 3g to archives? I don't want to remove them permenantly. I want to keep them, in case I want to read them again later on. I just don't feel like going through all the pages to find the books that I haven't read yet.

Have you tried connecting your Kindle to your computer and deleting the books that way?
