I am having a problem syncing my Kindle to my iphone. When I read on my phone, I sync it when I am finished but when I turn on my Kindle to sync and go to furthest location it takes me to the last page I read on the Kindle. What could I be doing wrong?

i think- but i am not 100% sure- you have to leave the wireless on the kindle on all the time for this to work.

King Al says:
You have to turn on the wireless on the Kindle in order to sync it to where you last read on the iPhone. You can turn it off again after that (but you will need to turn it on temporarily again if you want the iPhone to pick up where you last read on the Kindle.)

Roxanne says:
Yes, I did turn on the wireless to sync but it didn't pick up the last page read on the phone, even though I synced the phone also.

Roxanne says:
Yes it will sync my iphone to the last page read on the Kindle. Just not from the last page read on the iphone to the Kindle

Roxanne, when you are reading the book on your iPhone, do you close the book (go to the Home page of the Kindle app) before you close the Kindle app? If you don't, then the last page read on your iPhone won't be transmitted to the Amazon server.

If you do, then when you go to your Kindle, turn on your wireless while you're on the Home page, and select "sync and check for new items." Then, when that's done (if you have no downloads waiting, it'll show a message at the top left that there are "no new items" when it's finished checking. Then, open the book you were reading on your iPhone. A box *should* pop up that says something like: "Furthest location on "Roxanne's iPhone" is xxxxxxx on [date] and [time]. Go to that location?" You will select and click on "OK." Then it'll take you to where you left off on your iPhone. If that box does NOT appear right when you open the book, hit Menu and choose "Sync to furthest page read" (may not be those exact words, but it's something along those lines). Then that same box I described will pop up.

From things I've read here, it seems that a lot of iPhone/iPod touch users will leave the book open on their iPods and just close the app without going back to the Home page. That means the last location won't be sent to Amazon's server. Or, if you do want to close the app without closing the book, you need to tap the center of the screen while you're in the book to get the Menu overlay, then tap the icon on the bottom right of the screen (it's two curved arrows that form a circle) to force the Kindle app to sync the furthest location read). It'll probably be the location you're at on your iPhone, but it will force the sync without your having to close the book if you don't want to.

Let me know if this helps.

I am having the same issue -- the iPhone will go to the last page I read on the Kindle but not the reverse. I have tried syncing before closing the iPhone app, going to home first, nothing worked. I always have the phone with me so I can just use the 'go to' menu item but it doesn't make sense that it works one way and not the other. Just updated the software on the Kindle. Any other ideas?

Thanks! Helped me.

I wondered why sometimes the sync worked and sometimes it didn't. Now I know why.

Roxanne, did you ever get this working. I'm having the same problem. Thing is, I could swear that this used to work just fine for me and it's only in the last couple of months that it doesn't--and I am making sure to sync on my iPod touch before closing out of the Kindle App.

No, Lorreen, I have tried all of the combinations mentioned here and cannot sync from my iphone to my Kindle. Only from the Kindle to the iphone. VERY frustrating. I would love to know if anyone is able to do it on theirs.

I had trouble with mine also. I deleted the app on the iPhone and downloaded again. That seemed to help.

not a real solution to your problem, but if you are still having trouble, may I suggest jotting down the location number where you leave off on the iPhone, and just jumping to that location on the Kindle? Just as a temporary solution, which is what I did way back when before I figured out how to sync properly between the two devices.

Roxanne, I sync among my Kindle, iPod touch, and BlackBerry Curve all the time. Maybe you could (if you can type it up as you actually do it) open a book on your iPhone, quickly read a page or two, and list here on this thread what you do after that, both on your iPhone, then on your Kindle when you open the same book there.

I just got mine to work! Roxanne, go to "home" on the Kindle App on your iPhone, then click on the "i" in the lower righthand corner. Now choose "Settings." Is your Annotations Backup on or off? I'd turned mine off a while ago because I don't make annotations so thought it was unnecessary. But just now I turned it on, and now syncing *from* my iPod works! Apparently that Annotations Backup covers more than just annotations. I'm going to contact customer support and suggest they make that more clear, but I'd love to hear whether or not this was also the problem for you.

I have had the kindle app on my iphone for a couple of days now and have been hit and miss with the syncing. Sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't.
I Think I have finally sussed it out but would appreciate someone who uses the app confirming it. Am I right in thinking that firstly you have to turn wifi on and secondly when you finish with either the kindle or the iphone you must press the home button rather than just finish on the page. After trying all sorts of ways and getting thoroughly confused I think this is what I must do. Just wanted to check as I usually just let my kindle go to sleep on the page. Reading the above it seems to be that it is the process of going back to the home page that sends a message to the server. Does this seem correct. Thanks.
Also wanted to say for anyone who hasnt got the app its great. It will never replace my kindle but when I am out and about and have five mins it great.

When you finish reading on your Kindle, you have to click home, and then turn on wireless and connect so the last page information can be sent to Amazon's servers. That's where the iphone gets the information.

After you finish reading on the iphone and click menu, when you pick up the Kindle to read, you need to click Menu, Sync and Check for Items, before you open the book. The latest page information from the iPhone isn't available to the Kindle until after you connect to wireless.

Wifi definitely needs to be kept on, especially if you go back and forth between the two devices. I use the iphone, iPad and kindle, but I never have to go to the home page. I just stop wherever I am and it syncs. I did call customer service when I was having problems and they had me delete the apps and reinstall them, plus they did something on their end and I haven't had a problem since.

I have the exact same problem as Roxanne and have tried everything recommended above to no avail. My iPhone will sync from my Kindle, but not the other way around. I've given up trying to make it work and just note where I end on my iPhone, then "Go To" that place when I open my Kindle. Very frustrating as my iPad and Kindle seem to sync just fine.

I bought a kindle book and had it delivered it to my iPhone. I want to read it on my iPad too but it's not syncing. How do I do it manually?

I had the same issues, and I tried the suggestion of turning annotations back up on for my iPhone which I, like the poster, also had turned off on my phone thinking it wasn't necessary (I'd left it on for the kindle for some reason). And voila, it worked! Thanks!!!
