try a hard re-set, hold the power button down for 30 secs, time it, then re-start the kindle, then give it time to repopulate

Doesn't work :(, have run battery dead, tried that, hard restart a dozen times, nothing working the screens just keep flashing NON STOP back & forth (makes you dizzy) from wood grain background to the search bar screen with the headings under it Newsstand Books Music Videos Docs Apps Web.

That's one of the nice things about Amazon...you don't have to make repeated attempts to solve something on your own: you can always contact them.

By the way, it sounds like you let your battery run all the way out? That's one of the few things that I understand you should not do with a lithium-ion battery. It does sound like you were having problems before that, so that wouldn't be the initial cause in that case.

I generally charge my Kindles in the "middle half"...not the first quarter, not the last quarter.

I did have some wacky behavior like that with my first generation Kindle Fire when plugged into a power outlet in an airport once...is this happening when it is plugged in?
