The best advice regarding this is to buy the most recent technology and the most memory that you can afford.

Personally, I think it depends most on what the user wants out of the device that they buy..what they want it to do. If the person is mostly into reading and maybe just wants to get a color display and maybe play a few games and doesn't plan to use Skype and therefore doesn't need a front facing camera, the cheaper Kindle Fire HD might fit the bill just fine. I think the user needs to do some research and find out what the different options are on the different models and the different price points and see which one might be the right one for them. If they don't NEED all the features of the most expensive unit, why spend the extra money.

Here is a link to the product page that shows all the different units. Scroll down and you'll come to a matrix that shows all the different Fire models and their options and costs. If you have more questions about specific features, just ask. I, or I'm sure someone else will be happy to answer your questions. Keep in mind that if purchased through Amazon there is a 30 day return policy whereby you can return the device for a full refund if you decide it's not for you or not the right one for you.
